FAKE “VICTIMHOOD” OF ARAB “PALESTINIANS”

IN GENERAL

Why Israel Is The Victim And The Arabs Are The Indefensible Aggressors In the Middle East

1. The Jewish Problem and Its “Solution”

ZIONISM is a national liberation movement, identical in most ways to other liberation movements that leftists and progressives the world over — and in virtually every case but this one — fervently support. This exceptionalism is also visible at the reverse end of the political spectrum: In every other instance, right-wingers like Patrick Buchanan oppose national liberation movements that are under the spell of Marxist delusions and committed to violent means. But they make an exception for the one that Palestinians have aimed at the Jews. The unique opposition to a Jewish homeland at both ends of the political spectrum identifies the problem that Zionism was created to solve.

The “Jewish problem” is just another name for the fact that Jews are the most universally hated and persecuted ethnic group in history. The Zionist founders believed that hatred of Jews was a direct consequence of their stateless condition. As long as Jews were aliens in every society they found themselves in, they would always be seen as interlopers, their loyalties would be suspect and persecution would follow. This was what happened to Captain Alfred Dreyfus, whom French anti-Semites falsely accused of spying and who was put on trial for treason by the French government in the 19th Century. Theodore Herzl was an assimilated, westernized Jew, who witnessed the Dreyfus frame-up in Paris and went on to lead the Zionist movement.

Herzl and other Zionist founders believed that if Jews had a nation of their own, the very fact would “normalize” their condition in the community of nations. Jews had been without a state since the beginning of the diaspora, when the Romans expelled them from Judea on the west bank of the Jordan River, some 2,000 years before. Once the Jews obtained a homeland – Judea itself seemed a logical site — and were again like other peoples, the Zionists believed anti-Semitism would wither on its poisonous vine and the Jewish problem would disappear.

Here is what happened instead.

2. The Beginnings

In the 1920s, among their final acts as victors in World War I, the British and French created the states that now define the Middle East out of the ashes of the empire of their defeated Turkish adversary. In a region that the Ottoman Turks had controlled for hundreds of years, Britain and France drew the boundaries of the new states, Syria Lebanon and Iraq. Previously, the British had promised the Jewish Zionists that they could establish a “national home” in a portion of what remained of the area, which was known as the Palestine Mandate. But in 1921 the British separated 80 percent of the Mandate, east of the Jordan, and created the Arab kingdom of “Transjordan.” It was created for the Arabian monarch King Abdullah, who had been defeated in tribal warfare in the Arabian Peninsula and lacked a seat of power. Abudllah’s tribe was Hashemite, while the vast majority of Abdullah’s subjects were Palestinian Arabs.

What was left of the original Palestine Mandate – between the west bank of the Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea – had been settled by Arabs and Jews. Jews, in fact, had lived in the area continuously for 3,700 years, even after the Romans destroyed their state in Judea in AD 70. Arabs became the dominant local population for the first time in the 7th Century AD as a result of the Muslim invasions. The Arabs were largely nomads who had no distinctive language or culture to separate them from other Arabs. In all the time since, they had made no attempt to create an independent Palestinian state west or east of the Jordan and none was ever established.

In 1948, at the request of the Jews who were living in Palestine, the United Nations voted to partition the remaining quarter of the original Mandate to make a Jewish homeland possible. Under the partition plan, the Arabs were given the Jews’ ancient home in Judea and Samaria – now known as the West Bank. The Jews were allotted three slivers of disconnected land along the Mediterranean and the Sinai desert. They were also given access to their holy city of Jerusalem, but as an island cut off from the slivers, surrounded by Arab land and under international control. Sixty percent of the land allotted to the Jews was the Negev desert. Out of these unpromising parts, the Jews created a new state, Israel, in 1948. At this time, the idea of a Palestinian nation, or a movement to create one did not even exist.

At the moment of Israel’s birth, Palestinian Arabs lived on roughly 90 percent of the original Palestine Mandate – in Transjordan and in the UN partition area, but also in the new state of Israel itself. There were 800,000 Arabs living in Israel alongside 1.2 million Jews. At the same time, Jews were legally barred from settling in the 35,000 square miles of Palestinian Transjordan, which eventually was renamed simply “Jordan.”

The Arab population in the slivers called Israel had actually more than tripled since the Zionists first began settling the region in significant numbers in the 1880s.The reason for this increase was that the Jewish settlers had brought industrial and agricultural development with them, which attracted Arab immigrants to what had previously been a sparsely settled and economically destitute area.

If the Palestinian Arabs had been willing to accept this arrangement in which they received 90 percent of the land in the Palestine Mandate, and under which they benefited from the industry, enterprise and political democracy the Jews brought to the region, there would have been no Middle East conflict. But this was not to be.

Instead, the Arab League – representing five neighboring Arab states – declared war on Israel on the day of its creation, and five Arab armies invaded the slivers with the aim of destroying the infant Jewish state.During the fighting, according to the UN mediator on the scene, an estimated 472,000 Arabs fled their homes to escape the dangers. They planned on returning after an Arab victory and the destruction of the Jewish state.

But the Jews — many of them recent Holocaust survivors — refused to be defeated. Instead, the five Arab armies that had invaded their slivers were repelled. Yet there was no peace. Even though their armies were beaten, the Arab states were determined to carry on their campaign of destruction, and to remain formally at war with the Israeli state. After the defeat of the Arab armies, the Palestinians who lived in the Arab area of the UN partition did not attempt to create a state of their own. Instead, in 1950, Jordan annexed the entire West Bank.

3. Refugees: Jewish and Arab

As a result of the annexation and the continuing state of war, the Arab refugees who had fled the Israeli slivers did not return. There was a refugee flow into Israel, but it was a flow of Jews who had been expelled from the Arab countries. All over the Middle East, Jews were forced to leave lands they had lived on for centuries. Although Israel was a tiny geographical area and a fledgling state, its government welcomed and resettled 600,000 Jewish refugees from the Arab countries.

At the same time, the Jews resumed their work of creating a new nation in what was now a single sliver of land. Israel, had annexed a small amount of territory to make their state defensible, including a land bridge that included Jerusalem.

In the years that followed, the Israelis made their desert bloom. They built the only industrialized economy in the entire Middle East. They built the only liberal democracy in the Middle East. They treated the Arabs who remained in Israel well. To this day the very large Arab minority, which lives inside the state of Israel, has more rights and privileges than any other Arab population in the entire Middle East.

This is especially true of the Arabs living under Yasser Arafat’s corrupt dictatorship, the Palestine Authority, which today administers the West Bank and the Gaza strip, and whose Arab subjects have no human rights. In 1997, in a fit of pique against the Oslo Accords, Palestinian spokesman Edward Said himself blurted this out, calling Arafat “our Papa Doc” – after the sadistic dictator of Haiti – and complaining that there was “a total absence of law or the rule of law in the Palestinian autonomy areas.”

The present Middle East conflict is said to be about the “occupied territories” – the West Bank of the Jordan and the Gaza strip – and about Israel’s refusal to “give them up.” But during the first twenty years of the Arab-Israeli conflict, Israel did not control the West Bank. In 1950, when Jordan annexed the West Bank, there was no Arab outrage. Nor did the Middle East conflict with the Jews subside.

The reason there was no Arab outrage over the annexation of the West Bank was because Jordan is a state whose ethnic majority is Palestinian Arabs. On the other hand, the Palestinians of Jordan are disenfranchised by the ruling Hashemite minority. Despite this fact, in the years following the annexation the Palestinians displayed no interest in achieving “self-determination” in Hashemite Jordan. It is only the presence of Jews, apparently, that incites this claim. The idea that the current conflict is about “occupied territories” is only one of the many large Arab deceits — now widely accepted — that have distorted the history of the Middle East wars.

4. The Arab Wars Against Israel

In 1967, Egypt, Syria and Jordan attacked Israel for a second time and were again defeated. It was in repelling these aggressors that Israel came to control the West Bank and the Gaza strip, as well as the oil-rich Sinai desert. Israel had every right to annex these territories captured from the aggressors – a time honored ritual among nations, and in fact the precise way that Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan had come into existence themselves. But Israel did not do so. On the other hand, neither did it withdraw its armies or relinquish its control.

The reason was that the Arab aggressors once again refused to make peace. Instead, they declared themselves still at war with Israel, a threat no Israeli government could afford to ignore. By this time, Israel was a country of 2 or 3 million surrounded by declared enemies whose combined populations numbered over 100 million. Geographically Israel was so small that at one point it was less than ten miles across. No responsible Israeli government could relinquish a territorial buffer while its hostile neighbors were still formally at war. This is the reality that frames the Middle East conflict.

In 1973, six years after the second Arab war against the Jews, the Arab armies again attacked Israel. The attack was led by Syria and Egypt, abetted by Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and five other countries who gave military support to the aggressors, including an Iraqi division of 18,000 men. Israel again defeated the Arab forces. Afterwards, Egypt – and Egypt alone — agreed to make a formal peace.

The peace was signed by Egyptian president, Anwar Sadat, who was subsequently assassinated by Islamic radicals, paying for his statesmanship with his life. Sadat is one of three Arab leaders assassinated by other Arabs for making peace with the Jews.

Under the Camp David accords that Sadat signed, Israel returned the entire Sinai with all its oil riches. This act demonstrated once and for all that the solution to the Middle East conflict was ready at hand. It only required the willingness of the Arabs to agree.

The Middle East conflict is not about Israel’s occupation of the territories; it is about the refusal of the Arabs to make peace with Israel, which is an inevitable by-product of their desire to destroy it.

5. Self-Determination Is Not The Agenda

The Palestinians and their supporters also claim that the Middle East conflict is about the Palestinians’ yearning for a state and the refusal of Israel to accept their aspiration. This claim is also false. The Palestine Liberation Organization was created in 1964, sixteen years after the establishment of Israel and the first anti-Israel war. The PLO was created at a time the West Bank was not under Israeli control but was part of Jordan. The PLO, however, was not created so that the Palestinians could achieve self-determination in Jordan, which at the time comprised 90 percent of the original Palestine Mandate. The PLO’s express purpose, in the words of its own leaders, was to “push the Jews into the sea.”

The official charter of the new Palestine Liberation Organization referred to the “Zionist invasion,” declared that Israel’s Jews were “not an independent nationality,” described Zionism as “racist” and “fascist,” called for “the liquidation of the Zionist presence,” and specified, “armed struggle is the only way to liberate Palestine.” In short, “liberation” required the destruction of the Jewish state. The PLO was not even created by Palestinians but by the Arab League — the corrupt dictators who ruled the Middle East and who had attempted to destroy Israel by military force in 1948, in 1967 and again in 1973.

For thirty years, the PLO charter remained unchanged in its call for Israel’s destruction. Then in the mid-1990s, under enormous international pressure following the 1993 Oslo accords, PLO leader Yasser Arafat removed the clause while assuring his followers that its removal was a necessary compromise that did not alter the movement’s goals. He did this explicitly and also by citing a historical precedent in which the Prophet Muhammad insincerely agreed to a peace with his enemies in order to gain time to mass the forces with which he intended to destroy them.

6. The Struggle to Destroy Israel

The Middle East struggle is not about right against right. It is about a fifty-year effort by the Arabs to destroy the Jewish state, and the refusal of the Arab states in general and the Palestinian Arabs in particular to accept Israel’s existence. If the Arabs were willing to do this, there would be no occupied territories and there would be a Palestinian state.

Even during the “Oslo” peace process — when the Palestine Liberation Organization pretended to recognize the existence of Israel and the Jews therefore allowed the creation of a “Palestine Authority” — it was clear that the PLO’s goal was Israel’s destruction, and not just because its leader invoked the Prophet Muhammad’s own deception. The Palestinians’ determination to destroy Israel is abundantly clear in their newly created demand of a “right of return” to Israel for “5 million” Arabs. The figure of 5 million refugees who must be returned to Israel is more than ten times the number of Arabs who actually left the Jewish slivers of the British Mandate in 1948.

In addition to its absurdity, this new demand has several aspects that reveal the Palestinians’ genocidal agenda for the Jews. The first is that the “right of return” is itself a calculated mockery of the primary reason for Israel’s existence — the fact that no country would provide a refuge for Jews fleeing Hitler’s extermination program during World War II. It is only because the world turned its back on the Jews when their survival was at stake that the state of Israel grants a “right of return.” to every Jew who asks for it.

But there is no genocidal threat to Arabs, no lack of international support militarily and economically, and no Palestinian “diaspora” (although the Palestinians have cynically appropriated the very term to describe their self-inflicted quandary). The fact that many Arabs, including the Palestinian spiritual leader — the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem — supported Hitler’s “Final Solution” only serves to compound the insult. It is even further compounded by the fact that more than 90 percent of the Palestinians now in the West Bank and Gaza have never lived a day of their lives in territorial Israel. The claim of a “right of return” is thus little more than a brazen expression of contempt for the Jews, and for their historic suffering.

More importantly it is an expression of contempt for the very idea of a Jewish state. The incorporation of five million Arabs into Israel would render the Jews a permanent minority in their own country, and would thus spell the end of Israel. The Arabs fully understand this, and that is why they have made it a fundamental demand. It is just one more instance of the general bad faith the Arab side has manifested through every chapter of these tragic events.

Possibly the most glaring expression of the Arabs’ bad faith is their deplorable treatment of the Palestinian refugees and refusal for half a century to relocate them, or to alleviate their condition, even during the years they were under Jordanian rule. While Israel was making the desert bloom and relocating 600,000 Jewish refugees from Arab states, and building a thriving industrial democracy in its allotted sliver, the Arabs were busy making sure that their refugees remained in squalid refugee camps in the West Bank and Gaza, where they were powerless, right-less, and economically destitute.

Today, fifty years after the first Arab war against Israel, there are 59 such refugee camps and 3.7 million “refugees” registered with the UN. Despite economic aid from the UN and Israel itself, despite the oil wealth of the Arab kingdoms, the Arab leaders have refused to undertake the efforts that would liberate the refugees from their miserable camps, or to make the economic investment that would alleviate their condition. There are now 22 Arab states providing homes for the same ethnic population, speaking a common Arabic language. But the only one that will allow Palestinian Arabs to become citizens is Jordan. And the only state the Palestinians covet is Israel.

7. The Policy of Resentment and Hate

The refusal to address the condition of the Palestinian refugee population is – and has always been — a calculated Arab policy, intended to keep the Palestinians in a state of desperation in order to incite their hatred of Israel for the wars to come. Not to leave anything to chance, the mosques and schools of the Arabs generally — and the Palestinians in particular — preach and teach Jew hatred every day. Elementary school children in Palestinian Arab schools are even taught to chant “Death to the heathen Jews” in their classrooms as they are learning to read. It should not be overlooked, that these twin policies of deprivation (of the Palestinian Arabs) and hatred (of the Jews) are carried out without any protest from any sector of Palestinian or Arab society. That in itself speaks volumes about the nature of the Middle East conflict.

All wars — especially wars that have gone on for fifty years – produce victims with just grievances on both sides. And that is true in this one. There are plenty of individual Palestinian victims, as there are Jewish victims, familiar from the nightly news. But the collective Palestinian grievance is without justice. It is a self-inflicted wound, the product of the Arabs’ xenophobia, bigotry, exploitation of their own people, and apparent inability to be generous towards those who are not Arabs. While Israel is an open, democratic, multi-ethnic, multicultural society that includes a large enfranchised Arab minority, the Palestine Authority is an intolerant, undemocratic, monolithic police state with one dictatorial leader, whose ruinous career has run now for 37 years.

As the repellent attitudes, criminal methods and dishonest goals of the Palestine liberation movement should make clear to any reasonable observer, its present cause is based on Jew hatred, and on resentment of the modern, democratic West, and little else. Since there was no Palestinian nation before the creation of Israel, and since Palestinians regarded themselves simply as Arabs and their land as part of Syria, it is not surprising that many of the chief creators of the Palestine Liberation Organization did not even live in the Palestine Mandate before the creation of Israel, let alone in the sliver of mostly desert that was allotted to the Jews. Edward Said, the leading intellectual mouthpiece for the Palestinian cause grew up in a family that chose to make its home in Egypt and the United States. Yasser Arafat was born in Egypt.

While the same Arab states that claim to be outraged by the Jews’ treatment of Palestinians treat their own Arab populations far worse than Arabs are treated in Israel, they are also silent about the disenfranchised Palestinian majority that lives in Jordan. In 1970, Jordan’s King Hussein massacred thousands of PLO militants. But the PLO does not call for the overthrow of Hashemite rule in Jordan and does not hate the Hashemite monarchy. Only Jews are hated.

It is a hatred, moreover, that is increasingly lethal. Today, 70 percent of the Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza approve the suicide bombing of women and children if the targets are Jews. There is no Arab “Peace Now” movement, not even a small one, whereas in Israel the movement demanding concessions to Arabs in the name of peace is a formidable political force. There is no Arab spokesman who will speak for the rights and sufferings of Jews, but there are hundreds of thousands of Jews in Israel – and all over the world – who will speak for “justice” for the Palestinians. How can the Jews expect fair treatment from a people that collectively does not even recognize their humanity?

8. A Phony Peace

The Oslo peace process begun in 1993 was based on the pledge of both parties to renounce violence as a means of settling their dispute. But the Palestinians never renounced violence and in the year 2000, they officially launched a new Intifada against Israel, effectively terminating the peace process.

In fact, during the peace process — between 1993 and 1999 — there were over 4,000 terrorist incidents committed by Palestinians against Israelis, and more than 1,000 Israelis killed as a result of Palestinian attacks – more than had been killed in the previous 25 years. By contrast, during the same period 1993-1999 Israelis were so desperate for peace that they reciprocated these acts of murder by giving the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza a self-governing authority, a 40,000 man armed “police force,” and 95 percent of the territory their negotiators demanded. This Israeli generosity was rewarded by a rejection of peace, suicide bombings of crowded discos and shopping malls, an outpouring of ethnic hatred and a renewed declaration of war.

In fact, the Palestinians broke the Oslo Accords precisely because of Israeli generosity, because the government of Ehud Barak offered to meet 95 percent of their demands, including turning over parts of Jerusalem to their control — a possibility once considered unthinkable. These concessions confronted Arafat with the one outcome he did not want: Peace with Israel. Peace without the destruction of the “Jewish Entity.”

Arafat rejected these Israeli concessions, accompanying his rejection with a new explosion of anti-Jewish violence. He named this violence — deviously — “The Al-Aksa Intifada,” after the mosque on the Temple Mount. His new jihad was given the name of a Muslim shrine to create the illusion that the Intifada was provoked not by his unilateral destruction of the Oslo peace process, but by Ariel Sharon’s visit to the site. Months after the Intifada began, the Palestine Authority itself admitted this was just another Arafat lie.

In fact, the Intifada had been planned months before Sharon’s visit as a follow-up to the rejection of the Oslo Accords. In the words of Imad Faluji, the Palestine Authority’s communications minister, “[The uprising] had been planned since Chairman Arafat’s return from Camp David, when he turned the tables on the former U.S. president [Clinton] and rejected the American conditions.” The same conclusion was reached by the Mitchell Commission headed by former U.S. Senator George Mitchell to investigate the events: “The Sharon visit did not cause the Al-Aksa Intifada.”

9. Moral Distinctions

In assessing the Middle East impasse it is important to pay attention to the moral distinction revealed in the actions of the two combatants. When a deranged Jew goes into an Arab mosque and kills the worshippers (which happened once) he is acting alone and is universally condemned by the Israeli government and the Jews in Israel and everywhere, and he is punished to the full extent of Israeli law. But when a young Arab enters a disco filled with teenagers or a shopping mall or bus crowded with women and children and blows himself and innocent bystanders up (which happens frequently), he is someone who has been trained and sent by a component of the PLO or the Palestine Authority; he is officially praised as a hero by Yasser Arafat; his mother is given money by the Palestine Authority; and his Arab neighbors come to pay honor to the household for having produced a “martyr for Allah.” The Palestinian liberation movement is the first such movement to elevate the killing of children – both the enemy’s and its own – into a religious calling and a strategy of the cause.

It is not only the methods of the Palestine liberation movement that are morally repellent. The Palestinian cause is itself corrupt. The “Palestinian problem” is a problem created by the Arabs, and can only be solved by them. In Jordan, Palestinians already have a state in which they are a majority but which denies them self-determination. Why is Jordan not the object of the Palestinian “liberation” struggle? The only possible answer is because it is not ruled by Jews.

There is a famous “green line” marking the boundary between Israel and its Arab neighbors. That green line is also the bottom line for what is the real problem in the Middle East. It is green because plants are growing in the desert on the Israeli side but not on the Arab side. The Jews got a sliver of land without oil, and created abundant wealth and life in all its rich and diverse forms. The Arabs got nine times the acreage but all they have done with it is to sit on its aridity and nurture the poverty, resentments and hatreds of its inhabitants. Out of these dark elements they have created and perfected the most vile anti-human terrorism the world has ever seen: Suicide bombing of civilians. In fact, the Palestinians are a community of suicide bombers: they want the destruction of Israel more than they want a better life.

If a nation state is all the Palestinians desire, Jordan would be the solution. (So would settling for 95 percent of one’s demands.) But the Palestinians also want to destroy Israel. This is morally hateful. It is the Nazi virus revived. Nonetheless, the Palestinian cause is generally supported by the international community, with the singular exception of the United States (and to a lesser degree Great Britain). It is precisely because the Palestinians want to destroy a state that Jews have created — and because they are killing Jews — that they enjoy international credibility and otherwise inexplicable support.

10. The Jewish Problem Again

It is this international resistance to the cause of Jewish survival, the persistence of global Jew-hatred that, in the end, refutes the Zionist hope of a solution to the “Jewish problem.” The creation of Israel is an awe-inspiring human success story. But the permanent war to destroy it undermines the original Zionist idea.

More than fifty years after the creation of Israel, the Jews are still the most hated ethnic group in the world. Islamic radicals want to destroy Israel, but do so Islamic moderates. For the Jews in the Middle East, the present conflict is a life and death struggle, yet every government in the UN with the exception of the United States and sometimes Britain regularly votes against Israel in the face of a terrorist enemy, who has no respect for the rights or lives of Jews. After the Al-Qaeda attack on the World Trade Center, the French ambassador to England complained that the whole world was endangered because of “that shitty little country,” Israel. This caused a scandal in England, but nowhere else. All that stands between the Jews of the Middle East and another Holocaust is their own military prowess and the generous, humanitarian support of the United States.

Even in the United States, however, one can now turn the TV to channels like MSNBC and CNN to see Ariel Sharon who is the elected Prime Minister of a democracy equated politically and morally with Yasser Arafat who is a dictator, a terrorist and an enemy of the United States. One can see the same equivalence drawn between Israel’s democracy and the Palestine Authority, which is a terrorist entity and an ally of America’s enemies Al Qaeda and Iraq.

During the Gulf War, Israel was America’s staunch ally while Arafat and the Palestinians openly supported the aggressor, Saddam Hussein. Yet the next two U.S. Governments – Republican and Democrat alike – strove for even-handed “neutrality” in the conflict in the Middle East, and pressured Israel into a suicidal “peace process” with a foe dedicated to its destruction. It is only since September 11 that the United States has been willing to recognize Arafat as an enemy of peace and not a viable negotiating partner.

The Zionists’ efforts created a thriving democracy for the Jews of Israel (and also for the million Arabs who live in Israel), but failed to normalize the Jewish people or make them safe in a world that hates them. From the point of view of the “Jewish problem,” which Herzl and the Zionist founders set out to solve, it is better today to be a Jew in America than a Jew in Israel.

This is one reason why I myself am not a Zionist but an unambivalent, passionate American patriot. America is good for the Jews as it is good for every other minority who embraces its social contract. But this history is also why I am a fierce supporter of Israel’s survival and have no sympathy for the Palestinian side in the conflict in the Middle East. Nor will I have such sympathy until the day comes when I can look into the Palestinians’ eyes and see something other than death desired for Jews like me.

SELF-INFLICTED ARABS SINCE 1948

The Palestinian narrative is a falsification of history
If true peace is ever to reign among Israel and its Arab neighbors, it is important that the Arabs recognize that what they call the Nakba was a self-inflicted tragedy.
By Moshe Arens
[03/11/10]

The legendary TV sleuth Columbo used to question witnesses to a crime he was investigating by confronting them brusquely: “Just give me the facts,” he would say. He was not interested in hearing conflicting subjective accounts of the kind that appear in Akira Kurosawa’s famous film “Rashomon,” where each of the witnesses to a crime gave his subjective impression in mutually contradictory ways. The facts, that is all he wanted to hear. The facts, that is what is required of those who teach history to our children in school when they teach the history of Israel’s War of Independence.

Some years ago, the Ministry of Education instructed schools to teach our children the “Palestinian narrative” in addition to the Jewish (Israeli?) narrative of the events of Israel’s War of Independence. Now that this instruction has been countermanded, a demand is voiced by some that the “Palestinian narrative” nevertheless continue to be taught in our schools. Are there really two narratives which our children should be taught? Is history no more than a collection of conflicting narratives?

The “narrative” mode of history is something of recent vintage, a fad not likely to persist. It is the facts that we want our children to be taught in history lessons. There may be different interpretations of certain events that may need to be elaborated, even when the events themselves have been established beyond doubt. It is only when the actual course of events has been difficult or impossible to ascertain that there is room for presenting different versions.

As a matter of fact, the narrative form of teaching history seems to have struck root primarily in Israel. Would anyone suggest that in American schools the “Japanese narrative” of the American-Japanese conflict during World War II be taught alongside the “American narrative”? Is the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 no more than the American version? Or how about teaching in Russian schools the “German narrative” of the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941? This seems too preposterous to contemplate.

So why is this happening in Israel? Yes, there is a “Palestinian narrative” of the 1948 war, and it is called “Nakba.” But as every student of that war and the still-living witnesses know only too well, the Nakba version is no more than a pack of lies. No juggling and politicized interpretations of the events of that war, in which one percent of the Jewish population fell fighting against the Arab attack, can change the fact that the Arab world – the local Arab militias and the regular armies of the neighboring Arab countries, plus Iraqi forces – attempted to destroy the Jewish State in a war they started immediately after the UN resolution dividing western Palestine into Jewish and Arab states in November 1947.

Six thousand Jews – soldiers and civilians – fell in that war fighting against the Arab onslaught. Where the Arabs were successful the Jewish population was killed or deported, and all Jewish property was destroyed. What happened in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem and in the Etzion bloc in May 1948 when they fell to the Jordanian Legion was a portent of the fate that awaited the entire Jewish community had the Arabs won this war. All this has been effaced in the “Palestinian narrative.”

Is it suggested that this falsification of history should be taught to schoolchildren – Jews and Arabs – in Israel?

It is true that the Arab population of Palestine suffered grievously during that war. But it is also beyond doubt that this tragedy was brought on them by the decisions taken by the Arab leadership. It is essential that this part of the history of Israel’s War of Independence, of the “Israeli narrative” if you like, be taught in our schools to Jewish and Arab children alike. And if true peace is ever to reign among Israel and its Arab neighbors, it is important that the Arabs recognize that what they call the Nakba was a self-inflicted tragedy.

Just as real peace could come to Europe after World War II only after Germans abandoned the “German narrative” and accepted the true history of the war that Germany started, so only abandonment of the “Palestinian narrative” and acceptance of the true sequence of the events of 1947-48 can serve as a basis for reconciliation between Jews and Arabs.

Palestine’s Self-Inflicted Wound
Alan Dershowitz [Lawyer and author]
Posted: May 17, 2007 05:21 PM

I just returned from a visit from several university campuses during which I spoke about the Israeli-Palestine conflict. On these and other campuses anti-Israel students commemorate the Palestinian Nakba. They call this the Day of Catastrophe on which the Palestinians were deprived of their homeland and were made refugees from their birthplace. They compare their catastrophe to the Holocaust. Perhaps out of deference to the suffering of the Palestinian people, Pro-Israel students generally say nothing in response to these Nakba commemorations. The impression is thus created that everyone agrees that this was indeed a catastrophe inflicted by Israel on the Palestinians. The time has come to reply to this canard and to place it in its historical context.

The Nakba was indeed a catastrophe, but it was a self-inflicted wound. The Palestinian Nakba was a direct result of the refusal of the Palestinian and Arab leadership to accept the two state solution offered by the United Nations in 1947-48. The UN divided what remained of Palestine, after Trans-Jordan was carved out of it, into two states of roughly equal size (The Israelis got slightly more actual land, but the Palestinians got considerably more arable land). Israel would control territories in which Jews were a majority, while the Palestinians would control territories in which Arabs were a majority. Israel accepted the partition and declared statehood. Palestinians rejected statehood and attacked Israel with the help of all the surrounding Arab countries. In the process of defending their new state, Israel lost 1% of its population (1 out of every 100 Israelis were killed.) In the ensuing war- a war declared to be genocidal by Israel’s enemies- 700,000 Palestinians left their homes, some voluntarily, some at the urging of Palestinian leaders and some forced out by the Israeli military. None of these people would have had to leave Israel had the Palestinians and other Arabs been willing to accept the two state solution. It was indeed a catastrophe for all sides, but the catastrophe was caused by the Palestinians and Arabs.

In the aftermath of the war, Jordan occupied the West Bank and Egypt occupied the Gaza Strip. There were no United Nations condemnations of these occupations though they were brutal and denied the Palestinians autonomy and sovereignty. Only when Israel occupied these lands, following a defensive war against Egypt and Jordan, did the occupation become a source of international concern.

This is the reality. This is the historical truth. And the world should understand that this particular catastrophe, as distinguished from others like the Holocaust, could easily have been prevented had the Palestinians wanted their own state more than they wanted to see the destruction of the Jewish state of Israel.

The Germans don’t celebrate the catastrophe resulting from their invasion of Poland. Japanese do not celebrate their catastrophe resulting from the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Why do Palestinians celebrate their catastrophe resulting from the Arab attack against Israel?

CHAPTER 12

A Self-Inflicted Catastrophe

“The Arabs failed their fateful test not because of numerical or material inferiority –for the Jews had no edge in either category. They failed because of the spirit that had guided them for quite some time and continues to doso….A spirit of laziness, neglect, incompetence, indecision, divisiveness, delusion, humbug … lack of seriousness, willingness to sacrifice, and solidarity … and no true belief in the cause for which they are fighting.”
Muhammad Izzat Darwaza, 1972

Why did Palestinian Arab society collapse and disintegrate during the fateful five-and-a-half months of fighting that followed the passing of the partition resolution?

Why did vast numbers of Palestinians take to the road while their Jewish adversaries, who were facing the same challenges, dislocation, and all-out war, and who paid a comparatively higher human cost stayed out?

To many contemporary Arabs the answer was clear and unequivocal: the Palestinians were an unpatriotic and cowardly lot who had shamefully abdicated their national duty while expecting others to fight on their behalf. “Fright has struck the Palestinian Arabs and they fled their country,” commented Radio Baghdad on the eve of the pan-Arab invasion of the newborn state of Israel in mid-May. “These are hard words indeed, yet they are true.” Lebanon’s minister of the interior (and future president) Camille Chamoun was more delicate, intoning that “The people of Palestine, in their previous resistance to imperialists and Zionists, proved they were worthy of independence, But at this decisive stage of the fighting they have not remained so dignified.”

In two reports to the Arab League’s Palestine Committee, ALA commander-in-chief Ismail Safwat lamented that only 800 of the 5000 volunteers trained by the ALA had come from Palestine itself, and most of these had deserted their units either before completing their training or immediately afterward. This, in his view, reflected a wider malaise of Palestinian Arab society, which remained embroiled in internal squabbles at a time when its corporate existence was in mortal danger. “I have done everything in my power to overcome this

‘The people of Palestine, in their previous resistance to imperialists and Zionists, proved they were worthy of independence’, he said in a press conference on 7 May 1948. ‘But at this decisive stage of the fighting they have not remained so dignified in their stand; they lack organization and omitted to arm themselves as well as their enemy did. Many of them did not assist their brothers from nearby Arab countries hastened to help them. I think the explanation is that they were absorbed in local disputes’. A Brief Guide to Why 1948 Was a Palestinian Arab and Arab Disaster
By Barry Rubin May 17, 2011

In 1947 the UN voted to partition the British mandate of Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. The Jews accepted partition into two states; the Arabs rejected it.

The international community offered to make Amin al-Husseini, the Palestinian Arabs’ leader, head of a state despite the fact that he and his closest colleagues were the subject of a 1938 British arrest warrant for terrorist activities (not mythical but for killing lots of people), and had spent World War Two in Berlin doing pro-Nazi propaganda, recruiting for SS units, and planning a Holocaust of Jews in the Middle East.

But al-Husseini rejected partition and so did all of the Arab states. While Jordan wanted to make a deal and Egypt’s government wasn’t enthusiastic, they all had to go along with al-Husseini’s intransigence, their hysterical public opinion, and the other Arab states’ pressure. The Arab League’s leader, a Nazi agent during World War Two, bragged that the Jews would be massacred. The Muslim Brotherhood, which collaborated with the Nazis during the war and were subsidized by them before the war, sent volunteers to fight the Jews.

And so a Palestinian Arab army, whose three chief commanders had all fought for the Nazis during World War Two, went to war against the Jews using Nazi-supplied weapons (provided for the Palestinian Arab revolt in 1939 and for an Egyptian revolt that never happened in 1942). They lost.

Then the armies of the Arab states invaded Israel. They largely lost, though the Egyptian held onto the Gaza area while the Jordanians took east Jerusalem and what became known as the West Bank. Egypt ran Gaza; Jordan annexed the West Bank.

Everything that happened afterward was due to Arab decisions to reject both a two-state solution and Israel’s creation.

That’s the bottom line. So the disaster was due first and foremost to the Palestinian Arab leadership and secondly to the Arab states and publics.

Dealing with the “nakba” would then require that the Palestinian Arabs and the Arabic-speaking world generally would recognize that the disaster resulted from their refusal to accept Israel’s existence and to seek a genuine, compromise two-state solution.

But, instead, in the name of the 1948 disaster they are repeating the same policies that brought it about! Indeed, they are the same policies that led to the self-inflicted disasters of 1967, 2000, and others since then.

For example, as part of the preparations for the commemoration of the 1948 disaster, Palestinian Authority television played repeatedly a music video entitled “On the Way to Jerusalem” The main lines are:

“Jaffa, Acre, Haifa, and Nazareth are ours.

[ I ], Muhammad, sing about the Galilee and the Golan (Heights).
Jaffa, Acre, Haifa and Nazareth are ours.”

This is precisely the one-state, wipe-Israel-off-the-map that brought on them the disaster of 1948, disaster every year since then, and more disaster into the forseeable future. Sixty-four years (counting from 1947) of failed policy has not brought wisdom.

Almost every event–Egypt’s revolution, demonstrators trying to cross Israel’s border, a terrorist attack, Western sympathy, and so on–is interpreted as proving that Israel’s destruction is possible and so additional decades should be spent in diplomatic intransigence and the incitement of violence rather than some constructive effort. That’s one reason, by the way, why the Palestinians always ultimately lose.

This has also been going on so long that much of the West has forgotten the roots and ongoing causes of this conflict, Palestinian suffering, Israeli suffering, and the terrorist violence and defamation of Israel.

Note: The use of the words “Nazi collaborator” and other mentions of pro-Nazi activities in this article are not name-calling but based on German and U.S. intelligence materials. These points will be fully and in detail documented in the forthcoming book by myself and Wolfgang Schwanitz, to be published by Yale University Press next year.

The Self-Inflicted Catastrophe Continues
Asaf Romirowsky

The Jewish Exponent

May 15, 2008

Marking Israel’s 60th anniversary has engendered much debate within Palestinian society about the Nakba (“catastrophe”) and its celebration on May 15. Truth be told, the real catastrophe did not occur in 1948; it happened much earlier and it continues today under the leadership of Hamas. That is, the inability of the Palestinian national movement to create the political and social institutional infrastructure necessary for the foundation of a nation-state.

And although, Palestinians like to see themselves as the victims of the Zionist movement’s triumphant creation of a Jewish state, they should actually turn inward and look at the history of their own leaders who failed them.

This ongoing debate always raises the issue of the territorial bond between the land and the people and who rightfully owns the land.

For Israelis, though largely secular, their country remains a land deeply defined by religion, which also has political implications. The absence of a real separation of church and state in Israel is concomitant with the constant entanglement of religious and political issues rooted in the land itself. These roots fuel the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian violence over territorial ownership. For the “physical” territory is also the tie between religious identification in Judaism and the land itself.

And this tie to the land is unique to Judaism, as Adam Garfinkle explains:

“The religious identification of Jews in Israel is linked to the memory of the First and Second Commonwealths; it is history with a sacred dimension, and it is integral to the theological interpretation of Jewish history. As important, virtually all Jews know that Israel is the place that is most integral to Jews, and that Jerusalem is the place that is most integral to Israel. One can be a Jew anywhere, but there are some commandments that can be performed only in Israel. There is a sharp and indissoluble theological distinction between the land of Israel and everywhere else.”

Furthermore, Hillel Cohen in his new important book titled, Army of Shadows: Palestinian Collaboration With Zionism, 1917-1948, studies the relationships and ties between the Zionists and the Arab community in the pre-state era.

The merit of Cohen’s book lies in its thorough recounting of the history of Arab-Zionist cooperation and collaboration, period by period, region by region, family by family. One of the most important interactions Cohen highlights, which is key to the debate surrounding the ownership of the land, is the purchase of those lands from the Arabs, dating back to the 1880s. These legal acquisitions are important, as they dispel the ongoing myth used by Palestinians propagandists that the “Jews stole the land” from them.

Historically, by the end of 1947, the Zionist institutions and individual Jews had acquired close to 7 percent of Palestine’s land, which at the time was approximately 10,000 square miles. The legality of these transactions was done specifically to ensure that they could not be accused of taking the land by force.

History does not offer any guarantees for success, and the story of the Jewish yishuv (community) could have gone in a different direction. Had the Zionists failed, they could have cited the British Mandate authorities, who betrayed their charge to help form a Jewish national home; the Arab opposition; and the trauma of the Holocaust as excuses for why the modern state of Israel could not be established under such arduous circumstances. But despite all these hardships, the Zionist movement managed to overcome and establish a national authority, as well as an organizational and institutional foundation that led to the creation of the state.

In contrast to the Zionist story, the Palestinian story prefers to blame everyone around them but themselves — since it is easier to blame someone else than actually do the work that is desperately needed to move beyond a self-inflected catastrophe.

“CASUALTIES” VS CASUALTIES

The “al-Aqsa Intifada” – An Engineered Tragedy Summary of Findings
June 20, 2002
Updated: May 21, 2003
Don Radlauer
ICT Associate

An ongoing study by the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya provides an in-depth look at the fatalities on both sides of the current Palestinian/Israeli conflict. Based on thorough research using Palestinian and Israeli open sources, the study provides a breakdown of those killed by age, gender, and combatant status. The results lead to some surprising conclusions.

Combatants, Noncombatants, and Responsibility

Almost 1900 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the “al-Aqsa Intifada”, compared to almost 700 Israelis. Numbers like these are used to create an image of lopsided slaughter, with Israel cast as the villain. But such numbers distort the true picture: They lump combatants in with noncombatants, suicide bombers with innocent civilians, and report Palestinian “collaborators” murdered by their own compatriots as if they had been killed by Israel.

More meaningful figures show that Israel is responsible for some 733 Palestinian noncombatant deaths, while Palestinians have killed 546 Israeli noncombatants. Over 54 percent of the Palestinians killed were actively involved in fighting – and this does not include stone-throwers or “unknowns”. And Palestinians are directly responsible for the deaths of at least 253 of their own number – more than one out of every eight Palestinians killed. On the Israeli side, 80 percent of those killed have been noncombatants. While Israelis account for about 27 percent of the total “Intifada” fatalities, they represent over 43 percent of the noncombatant victims.

IDF’s unparalleled record of sparing civilians in counter-terrorism operations
December 30, 2011
Leo Rennert
In a year-end review of countering rocket fire from Gaza, the IDF reports that its retaliatory fire killed 100 Palestinians, including nine civilians. The rest were combatants linked to Palestinian terror organizations. Put another way, the Palestinian fatality toll included 10 fighters for every civilian.
The one-to-10 noncombatant-combatant fatality ratio is unique among conflicts around the world. No other army can boast of similar records of minimal civilian collateral damage. In fact, the United Nations estimates that 30 civilians are killed for every 10 combatant fatalities in conflicts elsewhere in the world. That’s three times as many non-combatants as combatants.

The IDF’s record is the more remarkable when one considers that Palestinian terror groups are deeply embedded in civilian neighborhoods, requiring ever greater IDF pinpoint accuracy in retaliatory strikes as well as extensive intelligence inside Gaza to select proper targets. Also, quite often, IDF commanders will forgo ordering an attack when the potential for civilian casualties seems too high.

Yet, if one reviews mainstream media reports in 2011 about the continuing Gaza conflict, scant attention is paid to the paucity of Palestinian civilian casualties. Headlines regularly announce that “Israel killed 3 Palestinians” — leaving readers in the dark about who these casualties are or, worse, concluding erroneously that they’re probably civilians. And virtually never do reporters dig into the lengths to which the Israeli military goes to spare civilians.

This remains most notable in coverage of Israel’s counter-terrorism incursion into Gaza in the winter of 2008-2009. To this day, media like the New York Times, abetted by spurious reports from human rights organizations and the UN’s notorious Goldstone report, still buy into Palestinian casualty figures hook, line and sinker, vastly exaggerating Palestinian civilian fatalities while overlooking hundreds of combatant fatalities.

The IDF, which conducted a detailed post-offensive investigation into Palestinian fatalities, found that there were 1,166 Palestinian fatalities, including 709 combatants, from what was dubbed Operation Cast Lead. And it identified every one of them. In three weeks of grueling ground combat, in the face of terrorist fire from amidst Gaza civilians, the number of Palestinian combatant fatalities still substantially exceeded the number of non-combatants — by a margin of 6 to 4.

These breakdowns, however, were mostly ignored by mainstream media, while overall casualty totals were vastly inflated by the Palestinian side and by self-appointed human-rights groups. And, more often than not, combatant-versus-noncombatants breakdowns never made it into print.

To this day, the New York Times, in referring to Israel’s 2008-2009 Gaza offensive, simply mentions that 1,400 Palestinians were killed. Which falsely suggests that Israel used disproportionate force. A breakdown of civilians and non-civilians would throw light on what actually happened. But that king of reporting is not fit to print in the New York Times.

In similar vein, the UN’s Goldstone report accepted largely pro-Palestinian statistics to buttress its gross libel that the IDF deliberately targeted civilians.

Ironically, Hamas — long after the ground war was over — accepted breakdowns much closer to the truth. Why? Because, on reflection, phony big numbers for civilian deaths and phony small numbers for combatant deaths were apt to minimize Hamas’s “heroic” resistance against Israeli forces. So, Hamas belated announced that it had lost 600 to 700 of its fighters – a range quite close to the IDF’s conclusions.

But this also is of little interest to Western reporters determined to martyrize Palestinians while maligning Israel and its military.

Gillibrand-Risch Resolution Urging U.N. To Retract Flawed
Apr 15, 2011 – In a recent Washington Post op-ed, Judge Richard Goldstone retracted his premise that Israel committed war crimes during the 2008 war in Gaza and intentionally killed Palestinians. Goldstone wrote in his op-ed, “If I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.”… The UN Human Rights Council members must put Judge Goldstone’s words into action and immediately revoke this inflammatory, anti-Israel document.”
Last week, Senators… led a Senate effort urging the UN panel to stop carrying out the report’s recommendations and take measures to ensure that the panel no longer launches false attacks and accusations against Israel… “Goldstone’s admission of error is not enough to undo the damage and libel made against Israel.

Why Do Palestinian Deaths Outnumber Israeli Deaths?
Jess Coleman
November, 2011

Assessments of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict often come down to a simple comparison: How many have been killed on each side. No one disputes that, by this simple calculation, Palestinian deaths outnumber those endured by the Israelis – by a lot. That approach, however, invokes a widely used mathematical idiom: statistics lie.

According to a study by the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism, between 2000 and early 2003, nearly 2,000 Palestinians had been killed compared to 750 Israelis. But a closer, more robust look at the numbers uncovers the flaws of that effortless assessment. Indeed, it is clear that these disproportionate death tolls are due to the fact that there are many more Palestinian combatant deaths than Israeli combatant deaths. Palestinians’ rejection of Israelis’ far superior heath care, along with the Palestinians’ use of human-shields, has widely distorted these numbers in favor of the Palestinians.

The most significant problem with a simple death toll is that it includes deaths of combatants (i.e. terrorists, suicide bombers, etc.). If you remove combatants from the equation and only look at noncombatants (innocent civilians), the tables immediately turn in favor of the Israelis.

According to the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism, 80% of the Israeli death toll is comprised of innocent civilians. On the Palestinian side, only 45% of those killed are non-combatants. Moreover, 40% of Israelis killed are females, compared with just 5% for Palestinian deaths. The numbers clearly indicate that the Palestinians actually target Israeli noncombatants and females, while Israel focuses solely on those that pose a threat, while at times inadvertently killing innocent civilians.

But even that assessment does not tell the whole story. According to the Jerusalem Post, because “Palestinian medical facilities are unable to treat many of their wounded adequately,” Israel offered the Palestinians their assistance. “The Israeli Health Minister Nissim Dahan has several times offered to treat ‘all Palestinians wounded in the current intifada in Israeli hospitals and at Israeli expense,’ but the Palestinians have not bothered to reply…”

It’s hard to understand why the Palestinians would ever opt to reject this offer. But it is likely driven by the Palestinian leadership’s understanding that when one of their citizens dies, Israel bears the burden. Motives aside, it is clear that many of the Palestinian noncombatant deaths could have been prevented had they accepted Israel’s gracious offer. Indeed, a significant reason for the disparity in deaths between the Israelis and the Palestinians is due to Israel’s far better health care capabilities.

Moreover, Israel displays a firm commitment to protect innocent life, while Palestinian combatants deliberately target innocent civilians and women, as the data suggests. The Israeli Army has a code of ethics. Israeli soldiers must act “out of recognition of the supreme value of human life,” and “do all in [their] power to avoid causing harm to [noncombatants’] lives, bodies, dignity, and property.”

Hamas forces, on the other hand, have been known to surround themselves with innocent civilians, creating human shields, in order to prevent Israel from attacking legitimate military targets. The intention is to tilt public opinion and inflate the number of innocent Palestinians killed by making it impossible for Israel to carry out its missions.

Consider the story of Abu Bilal al-Ja’abeer, told by Ja’abeer himself on Arab television. When Israeli forces targeted his house, they didn’t blindly bomb it. Instead, they alerted Ja’abeer that he had “five minutes to evacuate the house. You and your children.” Ja’abeer proceeded to call in friends and neighbors to form a shield around his house, making it impossible for Israel to carry out its legitimate mission.

This practice, however, is not simply employed as a means of protecting one’s private property. Hamas MP Fathi Hammad said in a speech on February 29, 2008, that “For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry … This is why they have formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly, and the mujahideen…” Not only is this method illegal under international law, but Hammad also felt the need to go even further. “We desire death like [the Zionists] desire life,” he concluded.

The Israeli army attempts to save the lives of legitimate military targets, and the Palestinians use that as an opportunity to tilt public opinion by causing more Palestinian deaths. The Israeli army should be praised for respecting the rights of all humans, even those who present a legitimate threat to Israel’s national security. Instead, Israel is the primary source of international opposition and is often tagged as the world’s worst human rights violator.

It’s time we not only educate ourselves before simply grasping onto public opinion, but also stop singling out a nation that should actually be passionately praised. Israel has endured vicious, inaccurate criticism throughout its entire history, and those who perpetuate those claims will only find themselves on the wrong side of history.

Examination of the number of Palestinians killed during Operation Cast Lead indicates that most were armed terrorist operatives and members of Hamas’s security forces involved in fighting against the IDF. Hamas has adopted a policy of concealing its casualties and attempts to include them in the overall number of civilians killed.
April 07, 2009

1. The results of an examination carried out by IDF Military Intelligence and issued by the IDF Spokesman show that during Operation Cast Lead (Dec. 27, 2008-Jan. 18, 2009) 1,166 Palestinians were killed. Most of them (709) belonged to terrorist organizations , i.e., Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and others. According to the findings, 295 non-combatant civilians were killed , among them women and children. The identity and degree of involvement of the remaining 162 Palestinians (all of them male) are unclear (IDF Spokesman’s website, March 26, 2009 ).

2. Six hundred and nine of the 709 armed Palestinians killed during the operation were Hamas terrorist operatives and operatives belonging to the security forces under orders from the Hamas de-facto administration. In many instances, security force operatives also serve in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades , Hamas’s military-terrorist wing. The Hamas administration issued a list of 232 internal security forces’ operatives who were killed during Operation Cast Lead, but examination showed that many them also served as commanders and terrorist operatives in the Brigades. 1In addition, about 100 operatives belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terrorist organizations active in the Gaza Strip were also killed fighting at the side of Hamas against the IDF.

3. The findings of the examination showed that during Operation Cast Lead 295 non-combatant civilians were killed, 89 of them under the age of 16, and 49 of whom were women (IDF Spokesman’s website, March 26, 2009 ). The basic reason behind the civilian casualties was Hamas’s (and the other terrorist organizations’) strategic decision to establish their military networks and fight against the IDF from within densely-populated civilian areas, making extensive use of the population as human shields (for example shooting from within or around residential dwelling and public institutions; booby-trapping civilian structures, including a school; operating from within groups of civilians, including children; and dressing terrorists as civilians, enabling them to melt into the civilian crowd). 2

Hamas’s media policy: concealing its own casualties
while magnifying harm done to civilians

4. During Operation Cast Lead Hamas adopted the policy of concealing its own casualties to prevent morale from flagging and to reinforce the (false) impression that Israel was deliberately directing its military operations against Gazan civilians. Surfers on PALDF, Hamas’s main Internet forum, were informed that it was strictly forbidden to post the names, pictures or any identifying details about “resistance” [i.e., terrorist] operatives killed or wounded until the end of the “Israeli aggression” in the Gaza Strip 3 (see the Appendix for the text of the instructions). In some instances reports were received of unofficial (and sometimes secret) and improvised burials during the fighting.

5. The policy of hiding the real number of terrorist operative casualties and issuing false reports about the number of civilians killed has continued after Operation Cast Lead . That was manifested by the creation of a false propaganda presentation of the mass killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip (the “holocaust” claimed by pro-Hamas propaganda) and the reduction or hiding of the blow dealt to Hamas’s military infrastructure and its terrorist operatives. All of the above were aimed at serving the “victory narrative” which Hamas has been carefully constructing since the end of Operation Cast Lead.

6. Hamas, which controls all information originating in the Gaza Strip, issued exaggerated numbers of the number of “civilians” killed during Operation Cast Lead, while feeding the media false data and selective, biased reports about the number of armed operatives killed. That was done by lending a civilian character to security forces’ operatives despite the fact that such operatives also serve in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades in unequivocally operational capacities. 4

7. The numbers of armed terrorists involved in the fighting are therefore swallowed by the general statistics, where their identity as terrorists is blurred and they are represented as civilians or innocent, harmless policemen deliberately killed by the IDF . As a result a gap has been created between the biased data provided by Hamas (which the human rights organizations base their reports on) and the aforementioned findings of the examination undertaken by IDF Military Intelligence .

8. After Operation Cast Lead the Palestinians media reported an exaggerated 1,330 deaths. 5 By the end of February the total had been inflated to 1,414 (according to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights) and then to 1,452 (by a media report which originated with the Hamas de-facto administration 6). The continual increase in the numbers of the dead was not supported by reports of scores of newly-found bodies or deaths of the wounded.

9. The discrepancy between the initial and later numbers can be explained by the inclusion of those who were not actually killed during Operation Cast Lead or the addition of those who died of natural causes. 7

2 A great deal of information about the operational methods employed by Hamas and the other terrorist organizations during Operation Cast Lead from within the civilian can be found on the ITIC website. The IDF Spokesman noted that the IDF took far-reaching steps to prevent the civilian population from being harmed, and to that end distributed millions of flyers, utilized the Palestinian media, made telephone calls to Gazans, fired warning shots and briefed commanders and soldiers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with the civilian population (IDF Spokesman’s website, March 26, 2009 ). Following reports in the Israel media about statements made by soldiers at the Rabin military preparation center, the Military Police held an investigation. It was found that crucial components of the soldiers’ descriptions were based on hearsay and not supported by specific personal knowledge. Following the findings, the Israeli Military Advocate General, Brigadier General Avichai Mendelblit, decided to close the investigation and determined that no evidence had been found for the claims. (For details see the IDF Spokesman’s website, March 30, 2009 .)

3 For further information see our January 12, 2009 bulletin entitled ” Hamas hides the casualties suffered by its operatives: Hamas’s main online forum censors the publication of names and photographs of operatives . ”

4 Hezbollah used a similar media policy during and after the second Lebanon war, when it refrained from publishing the number of its operatives killed. It preferred to bury them in secret without media coverage, as a way of reinforcing its myth of the “divine victory.”

5 The human rights organizations operating in the Gaza Strip were willing to report data and information in line with Hamas’s propaganda policy. However, when they tried to do so, their own reports revealed many difficulties in obtaining data and made it clear that no methodical, organized registration had been carried out and that they had had to rely on casual reports and statements given by families.

6 The number was reported by Muawiya Hassanein , head of emergency services in the Hamas administration’s ministry of health, who told the press that the number of Gazan dead was 1,452 (Ma’an News Agency, February 25, 2009).

7 According to the population registry, an average of 415 Gazans die every month. Thus, during Operation Cast Lead, more than 300 died of natural causes in the Gaza Strip. Some of them may have been listed as having died as a result of the operation, a phenomenon familiar from former confrontations in the Palestinian arena.

The official PA daily reported that she launched the UN campaign last week, and noted that she is the "mother of seven prisoners and of the Shahid (Martyr) Abd Al-Mun’im Abu Hmeid." However, the paper did not mention that 4 of her imprisoned sons are murderers.

Palestinian Media Watch reported last year that Abu Hmeid then had 4 sons in Israeli prisons who were each serving between two and seven life sentences, a total of 18 life sentences. At that time she was in the news because the PA Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs, Issa Karake, decided to honor her with an award, "the Plaque of Resoluteness and Giving… inscribed with the names of her four sons who are imprisoned."

The PA minister explained then why the mother of 4 murderers of Israelis deserves such honor:

"It is she who gave birth to the fighters, and she deserves that we bow to her in salute and in honor."

The four sons are serving a total of 18 life sentences for the following crimes:

Nasser Abu Hmeid
– 7 life sentences + 50 years – commander in Fatah’s military wing the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades in Ramallah. Convicted of killing seven Israeli civilians and 12 attempted murders.

Nasr Abu Hmeid – 5 life sentences – Member of terror faction of Fatah, Tanzim, and convicted of involvement in two terror attacks and arms dealing.

Sharif Abu Hmeid – 4 life sentences – a member in one of the brothers’ units carrying out terror attacks against civilians and soldiers. Accompanied a suicide bomber to his attack in March 2002.

Muhammad Abu Hmeid – 2 life sentences + 30 years – involvement in terror attacks.

A fifth son, Abd Al-Mun’im Muhammad Yusuf Naji Abu Hmeid, the one reffered to as "Martyr," was a member of the military wing of Hamas, Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, and planned and carried out the ambush and murder of an Israeli intelligence officer.

PMW has not been able to determine for which crimes the rest of the sons are imprisoned.

The following are the reports about the mother of the terrorists launching the PA statehood campaign:
PA TV News interviews Abd Al-Mun’im Wahdan, a member of the "Palestine – the 194th state" national campaign:

Wahdan: "We of the ‘Palestine – the 194th state’ national campaign [calling for] a Palestinian state with full sovereignty on the territory of Palestine, send a delegation from institutions, organizations, and popular factions. This delegation was headed by Um Nasser Abu Hmeid – this fighter woman, who is the mother of seven prisoners and the mother of the heroic Shahid (Martyr) from the [military wing of Hamas] Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades. This campaign included a letter in which the people demand that the UN recognize Palestine as a state with full sovereignty, like the other countries."
[PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 8, 2011]

"The ‘Palestine – the 194th State’ campaign has embarked on its national activities in support of realization [of the appeal to the UN] in September and obtaining UN membership for the State of Palestine, by conveying a letter to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, via his representative in Ramallah. The campaign started out opposite the UN building in Ramallah, with the participation of a number of heads of factions and national forces, representatives of official and popular institutions, independent personalities, and members of trade unions. Hajja Latifa Abu Hmeid, mother of seven prisoners and of the Shahid (Martyr) Abd Al-Mun’im Abu Hmeid, handed the letter to the representative of the UN Secretary General in Ramallah."
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 9, 2011]

"[In a procession which set off] yesterday from opposite the Cultural Auditorium in Ramallah in the direction of the UN representative office in Ramallah, the ‘Palestine – the 194th State’ national campaign was inaugurated… when Latifa Abu Hmeid, known as the ‘mother of the prisoners’, handed over a letter addressed to UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, via his representative in Ramallah… She was chosen [for this] because she is a symbol of Palestinian suffering as a result of the occupation’s (i.e., Israel’s) policy… She is the mother of prisoners Muhammad Abu Hmeid and his brothers Nasr, Nasser, Sharif, Basel, Islam and Jihad. She is prevented from seeing her sons who are sitting in the occupation’s prisons."

1660

Only one Jew survived the 1660 massacre in Safed by Arabs, Jews had to buy off the attackers via borrowing money from rich Muslims at high interest which were extorted with threats of further attacks.

1830’s

* First recorded attack –in modern era– on native Jews in Israel by Muslims, is the one in June 1834, Safed (the Plunder), the massacres and mass rapes went on for 33 days, (a provocateur, Muhammed Damoor, a self-proclaimed prophet, ‘prophesied’ the attack for which he agitated).
It was repeated in 1838.

* Egyptian soldiers massacred Jews in Hebron on the way of putting down a Muslim rebellion.
About the same time, Jewish houses and shops in Jerusalem were broken into and looted by local Muslim insurgents.

Throughout the 1830’s, the Jews found themselves caught between the ravages of the Egyptian soldiers and the multi-ethnic Muslim rebels who fought them.

* [Beginning, major wave of] Egyptian Arab immigration to Palestine.

1844

First census in Jerusalem shows 7120 Jews, 5760 Muslims, 3390 Christians.

1867

A pause in population growth. Desolation, majority of Palestine is vacant. [Arab migration would resume later on, as Zionists begin cultivating the deserted land].

Travelers, writers, including C. F. Volney in the 1700s, Alexander Keith in the 1800s, described Palestine as desolate, empty, waste land. Mark Twain, in “The Innocents Abroad,” 1867, wrote: “Palestine sits in sackcloth and ashes …desolate and unlovely…” (though Jews always had some continuous presence for thousands of years.)

1886

First attack of Arabs on a Jewish settlement was in Petach Tikva (which was the first settlement in modern day Israel-Palestine), in March of 1886.

1914

Incitement. the periodical Falastin – with its extremist Arab nationalist slant – was abolished by the Ottoman authorities because of its racist hate propaganda.

1917

On Nov 2, 1917, The British issued the Balfour Declaration, promising a “National Home” for the Jews in Palestine.

1920

Seeds of conflict:
Arabs attack Jews in Jerusalem & in Safed 1920-1921. Better known as “riots.”
During the year, 142 pogroms and 36 lesser riots occur against the Jews. It was carried out due to incitement by [later known as the Mufti] Haj Muhammad Amin al-Husseini who began accumulating wealth and power.
He was the de-facto “founder” of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

1922

* All out Arab immigration (from Syria, Egypt, etc.) into the historic homeland of the Jews started mainly in the 1800’s, however, a significant upsurge occurred since 1922 as Zionists changed the face of the deserted land.
President Roosevelt [in criticizing British White Papers restricting Jewish immigration] concluded in 1939 that “Arab immigration into Palestine since 1921 has vastly exceeded the total Jewish immigration during the whole period.”

From a speech by John W. McCormack of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1939: “as 150000 Jews and an equal number of Arabs have entered the country since that time, and there are still large stretches of vacant land in the country capable of development and settlement by large population.”

* In July 1922, Churchill White Paper separates Transjordan from area designated for creation of Jewish homeland and links Jewish immigration to “economic capacity of the country.”

As a continuing policy of appeasing the Arabs, 75% of the area of Palestine was taken away from the Jews and the Emirate of Transjordan was created, later to become Jordan. First the British, then the Arabs banned the entry of Jews from the area. This put those communities of Arabs in Transjordan and even the Judean desert who were of Jewish ancestry in an awkward position.

* The British mandatory authorities disregarded al-Husseini’s record of instigation to violence against Jews and against Arabs [he was convicted by the British for his role in 1920’s rampage] who didn’t follow his dictating hateful line, and appointed him grand mufti in 1922.

1929

First ‘Arab on Jews’ massacre in a clear attempt of annihilation, was the Hebron massacre in 1929, incited by the Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini who called to “Kill the Jews everywhere. This pleases Allah.” That was the foundation of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The 1929 riots were accompanied by militant Arab slogans such as: ‘Palestine is our land and the Jews our dogs…’ among the details of the brutality, small children were tortured by their murderers before being murdered. Women raped. Old Rabbis were castrated with their students before being slain.

Arabs attacked Jews in Safed as well.
[The mufti ferociously opposed to any form of cooperation between Jews and Arabs, which the fledging Zionist movement was trying actively to promote.]

Ever since the 1920’s, bigotry has been fomented.
[
From a PEW poll as recent as 2009: 90% of Middle East views Jews unfavorably.]

1930

In Oct. 1930, Passfield White Paper limits Jewish immigration to Palestine and forbids Jewish land purchases.
Arab immigration, on the other hand, flows into Jews’ historic land without interruption.

1936-9

* For almost three years (1936-39) there was a general Arab uprising & “riots” led by al-Husseini, thousands of Arabs were killed by the British, Arabs murdered & beaten Jews.
Among the highlights are: On April 19, 1936, Arab rioters carried out the ‘Jaffa Massacre.’
In 1938, Arabs massacre Jews in Tiberias.
The Tiberias (today part of the State of Israel) massacre took place on October 2, 1938 during the 1936–1939 Arab “revolt” in ‘Palestine,’ as they went from village to village, while shouting ‘Death to the English.’
Arabs murdered twenty Jews –among them 11 children– in Tiberias after infiltrating the Kiryat Shmuel settlement.

* In May 1939, MacDonald White Paper strictly limits Jewish immigration and prohibits Jews from purchasing Arab land.

* Al-Husseini (Mufti) flees to Iraq and then to Nazi Germany.

1941

The [non-Aryan, Arab] Mufti meets with Adolph Hitler (who –although– considered the Arabs, an inferior monkey-type “race,” yet managed to use him against the Jews) in 1941 [at times he’s called the ‘Fuhrer of the Arab world’], his parties & youth groups in Palestine are fascists, [since 1936, existed Nazi type “storm troopers” with the youth’s oath of: “Life — my right; independence — my aspiration; Arabism — my country, and there is no room in it for any but Arabs. In this I believe and Allah is my witness.” The Palestine two Arab para-military groups: “Futuwwa” & “Najjadah” were active under the mufti at least up to 1947 — cited in a 1947 CIA report document] he plots in his pact with the nazi leader, to massacre Jews on a big scale.
In his post-World War II memoir the Mufti wrote: “Our fundamental condition for cooperating with Germany was a free hand to eradicate every last Jew from Palestine and the Arab world. I asked Hitler for an explicit undertaking to allow us to solve the Jewish problem in a manner befitting our national and racial aspirations and according to the scientific methods innovated by Germany in the handling of its Jews. The answer I got was: The Jews are yours.”
He agitates –in that year– the Arabs, in Nazi oriented Iraq, to attack the Jews, many innocent Jews fall victims in the Farhud (pogrom in Baghdad), by the Arab-Islamic [Hitler-Youth group type] “futuwwa,” led attack.
Later on, in 1943, he will lead a Nazi SS [Bosnian] Muslim army [to commit crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing] against the Christian Serbs.

1947

June 1947, Blutan (Bludan) Syria. Arab League formation. A collective Arab “Jihad” (holy war) invasion by Arab nations is being plotted, to wipe off the Jewish-Palestine, soon to be called (again) Israel.

1948

* Arabs reject U.N. partition for a “two state solution” [even Haim Weizmann’s declaration of accepting a Jewish state even with the size of a tablecloth], the Zionists, however, agree, for the first time in (around) 2,000 Years, a Jewish (albeit non-religious, nor is its legal system Jewish) leadership is in its historic place back again.

* First attempt by the Arabs to ‘eradicate’ Israel, was right after its re-establishment (through the U.N.). The Mufti in 1947, when Israel was declared a state: “I declare a holy war, my Moslem brothers! Murder the Jews! Murder them all.” In 1948. Five Arab armies attacked, with Azzam Pasha, the General Secretary of the Arab League announcing ahead, “This will be a war of extermination, a momentous massacre, which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades.

* Arab leaders ‘create’ the Palestinian-refugee problem, by urging them to leave, as they are (bragging) about to ethnic cleanse the land out of the Jews.
Ever since, these persecuted victims of Arabs (“brothers”), have been used as nothing but a toy, in Arabs’ war against Israel.
[Arab-Palestinians willingness to play along, is one of their first self-inflicted wounds].

* Close to 1,000,000 Jews, indigenous to the Middle East (after Jews dwelling there for generations) are being expelled, as Arab racism grows. (The Jewish Nakba).

* Jordan occupies Jerusalem [May 28], divides the Holy city, expels ethnic-cleanses Jews, applies an ‘apartheid’ rule. It lasted till Israel’s victory which liberated and unified the city.

1950’s

1952 saw the first phenomenon in what now would be called terrorism, the 1950’s 1960’s Arab fidayeen raids against Israeli citizens & property.
[Worth mentioning, that when encountered by Bedouin –instead of Zionist– guards, the infiltrators have not seen mercy, to say the least, ‘Arab brotherhood.’]
In October 1959, Arafat co-founds Fatah terror group, the “Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine.”

1956

Amids backing and encouraging the Arab Fedayeen attacks, pan-Arab “leader,” Nasser of Egypt, surprises the world as he nationalizes the Suez canal, which was owned by British and French stockholders. While France and Britain had economic interest, Israel feared [again] to be overrun by Arab nations.

1961

Ahmad Shukairy (the Mufti‘s aide during WW2 when they collaborated with the Nazis) begins the vilification of Israel at the United Nations, including (already then, yes that’s right, who said, anti-Israel slandering has anything to do with what Israel does or does not?) with an “apartheid” slur.
He was also [the only known personality on the world, at that time who] “protested” the A. Eichmann trial in that speech.

In 1962, he identifies himself with Nazi groups in Argentina.
He had a long history of propagandists tirade, and was already arrested in Lebanon for anti-Western incitement in the 1930s.

1964

The beginning of the era of the Arab immigrants (or their children) adopting the title “Palestinians” as an exclusive name (instead of plain Arabs or S. Syrians) as a political “defintion,” with the creation of the
PLO.

For example, Ahmad Shukairy (the first PLO chairman) in 1956 clarified to the U.N. that they are Arabs, not Palestinians, but by 1964 he & other leaders have changed and began claiming they are the real “Palestinians”…

1964

January 1964: Creation of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), with Fatah as its main faction.
Fatah terror attacks started in January 1965, between 1965-1967: Numerous Fatah bomb attacks target Israeli villages, water pipes, railroads. Homes are destroyed and Israelis are killed. In July 1968: Fatah joins and becomes the dominant member of the PLO, an umbrella organization of Palestinian terrorist groups. On Feb. 4, 1969: Arafat is appointed Chairman of the Executive Committee of the
PLO.
On Oct. 21, 1996, Arafat said “We know only one word – jihad. jihad, jihad, jihad…”
In July 2000, Arafat rejected a peace settlement [leading to a “Palestinian” state] offered by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

1967

In 1967, Egypt’s pan-Arab leader Nasser declared, a few days before the six-day war, “Our main task is to destroy Israel.” Syria’s Assad: “It is time to embark on a war of annihilation.” Cairo Radio announced: “All Egypt is now prepared to plunge into total war which will put an end to Israel.” Radio Damascus exhorted: “Throw them into the sea.” Jordan’s king Hussein broadcast this to his army: “Kill the Jews wherever you find them. Kill them with your arms, with your hands, with your nails and teeth.” Throughout the streets of Damascus, Cairo and Amman the frenzied mob marched chanting: “idhbah, idhbah, idhbah, idhbah al-yahud” – (slaughter, slaughter, slaughter the Jews!) A. Shukairy “predicted” that no Jews in Palestine will survive…
The world is stunned at the miracle of tiny Israel pushing off Goliath Arab attack.
It also resulted in a knee-jerk resentment in the Arab world.

1968

July 1968: First act of air piracy against Israel; El Al airliner hijacked en route from Rome to Tel Aviv by PLO terrorists.

1970

Terrorism organized, among the highlighted first attacks: The Avivim school bus massacre in 1970, which resulted in killing 12 (9 of whom were children), and wounding 24.
The chain of Arab-Islamic terror picks-up, with targeting Jews in the area or in the world.

* On September 7, 1970, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hijacked three planes “to call special attention to the Palestinian problem.” – Dawning an era of international hijacking as a ‘Palestinian struggle.’

The PLO, from Jordan to Lebanon.
* The PLO is chased out of Jordan.
It will start stirring trouble in Lebanon, instead.
To avenge the expulsion from Jordan, the
PLO founded a secretive front group, Black September. Black September’s first victim was Jordanian Prime Minister.
Jordan massacres thousands of Arab Palestinians (Y.
Arafat claimed that Jordan killed between 10,000 to 25,000 in September 1970), for creating turmoil, attacking the government, hijacking airlines, etc.

1972

The Olympics cold blooded massacre of Israel’s sports team in Munich 1972 by Arab Palestinian terrorists, marked a turning point in getting the world’s attention to Arab terrorism.

All in all, the Arab-Palestinian actions, since the late 1960’s-early 1970’s, already defined its path by anti-civilian warfare.

1973

The same sentiments of ‘total annihilation of 1967’ echoes in 1973, (like: “Throw the Jews into the sea.”) the Yom Kippur war takes Israelis off guard, Israel suffers initially great losses but manages to regain it’s control/win over the Arabs, again, within the course of a few days.

Syrian Minister of Defense Mustafa Tlas told the Syrian National Assembly in December 1973 of the following example of “supreme valor” by Syrian troops:
There is the outstanding case of a recruit from Aleppo who murdered 28 Jewish soldiers all by himself, slaughtering them like sheep. All of his comrades in arms witnessed this. He butchered three of them with an ax and decapitated them….He struggled face to face with one of them and throwing down his ax managed to break his neck and devour his flesh in front of his comrades. This is a special case. Need I single it out to award him the Medal of the Republic. I will grant this medal to any soldier who succeeds in killing 28 Jews, and I will cover him with appreciation and honor his bravery.

October 16, 1973, OPEC Led by Saudi Arabia, announced the Arab oil embargo on western countries as a strategic part of the ‘Yom Kippur War,’ to use oil as a weapon.

As Arab nations boycotted Israel, corporations and nations had to agree to Arab demands and not do business with Israel, Arab dictators, terrorist nations/groups, extorted financial benefits or/and political concessions.

The collapse in the oil cartel in the 1980’s; the disunity in the Arab world; Israel’s well advanced high tech market & Israeli consumer market has, weakened somewhat the ‘Arab oil weapon.’

1975

Racist Arabs’ first campaign, of instilling in world’s mind the idea that Zionism [which is about Jews’ return to their homeland] should be regarded as “racism,” in 1975, at the UN through the Arab nations’ lobby, and forcing African nations (who many are still ‘slaves’ to their market and power) to go along.

Ever since, the dreadful idea of shouting “racism” grew as a pattern at any defensive action Israel ever takes against Arab
racist attacks.

It relies heavily on an assuming image of a poor disadvantaged Arab-Palestinian being persecuted by a paler skinned Israeli.
Though, in reality, most Israelis are “brown,” children of those that have been chased out by bigoted Arabs, in middle-east countries since 1948.
Note: Today, in pluralistic multi-racial democratic Israel there are also a great number of black Ethiopian Jews, very visible in security employment. There are no Jews at all, inside ‘purely-Arab’ Palestinian zones, if there’s true ethnic cleansing in the area, it can be found on the Arab side, including in Arab-Palestine.

1976

Palestinian Muslims (Arafat’s
PLO, Syrians and other Muslims), massacre 582 Christians in Damour Lebanon, in a very Islamic spirit of “Allah u Akbar!” and offering a “Holocaust to Muhammad.” It draws a payback by the Christian Phalanges in 1982 in Sabra Shatila (headed by Elie Hobeika, whose fiancee got murdered in Damour), that latter incident has been used in Arab anti-Israel propaganda to blame the Jews for Arab on Arab killings.

150,000 Christians were killed during the war with Muslims since 1975, the Arab Palestinians’ fault in it is major [backing Muslims against Christians].

1979

* The Islamic revolution of January 1979 in Iran impacted the entire region, the oppressive Mullahcracy dictatorship set out to a Shiite expansionism with a vocal anti-western-ism spearheaded by proclaiming the U.S. as the “great Satan” and Israel as the “little one” [its off shoot] (more).

* In March 1979, after a great sacrifice by Israel’s Menachem Begin in giving ‘Yamit‘ to Egypt, uprooting its residents, almost two years after Egypt‘s Sadat came over (November 1977) for a visit in Jerusalem, a peace deal was signed between the two countries.
However, the ugly extreme anti-Jewish pro-violence incitement in Egypt never stopped.

Like every government in Israel’s history, he declared the desire to live in peace with all Arab states. Begin agreed to return to Egypt the strategically critical Sinai — 91 percent of the territory won by Israel during the Six-Day War — in exchange for Sadat’s promise to make peace.
By a strategic give away, giving over the land to Egypt, Israel’s risks included returning to vulnerable areas used by enemies as launching pads for attacks, in addition, it also relinquished direct control of its shipping lanes to and from Eilat, 1,000 miles of roadways, homes, factories, hotels, health facilities and agricultural villages.

1981

On June 7, 1981 Israel carried out the daring air strike destroying Iraq’s nuclear reactor ‘Osirak‘ in an impressive operation, coded “Opera.”

This changed dramatically Saddam’s Iraqi status as a menace. The enormous impact on overall regional stability. As well as on coalition forces’ invasion of 2003.

1982

After a long history of bloody attacks by Arab Palestinians based in Lebanon, Israel is forced to enter Lebanon [‘Peace for the Galilee‘] with an aim to destroy
PLO‘s military capability.
In August 21, 1982 PLO evacuated Lebanon.
Israel is [initially] welcomed by many in Lebanon as ‘liberators,’ as the Arab-Palestinians have been prompting more violence between Muslims and Christians.
Sadly enough, the Islamic Republic of Iran founds a militia “Party of Allah” Hezbollah, its goal, establishing a clearly Islamic (totalitarian, oppressive) Shia state in the entire area, with the eradication of Israel.
Hezbollah will use terrorism against Israel, and adopt a tactic of using
human shields in order to cause civilian casualties, 18 Years later, a group of ‘4 Mothers’ peace activists in Israel will force its government to withdraw from Lebanon.

Background: Hezbollah –asides from being an extended arm of Iran– is backed by Syria, it is largely funded through blood diamonds (in Africa), drug trafficking & other illegal activities (among Arabs) in Latin America, its bloody record in violence include: Bombing American & French peacekeepers in Lebanon & the US embassy in that country (1983), kidnapping & torture, bombing shopping centers in Paris (1985/1986), hijacking airlines, targeting Israeli civilians, stirring violence in Iraq, Afghanistan & Somalia. Its leader H. Nassrallah had an ‘honesty outburst’ in Oct. (published in Oct/23) 2002, when he said: “If they (Jews) all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.” (More).

1987

First Arab-Palestinian “intifada,” attacking Israeli civilians in all methods possible, sending its youth throwing rocks [that kill] while, often armed adults hide behind these kids. Arab-Muslim Palestinian children are being indoctrinated into a death cult of Jihadism and Shahidism.

The use of children in the war –human bombs and human shields– becomes a routine. [‘Arafat‘s children’]

Palestinian propaganda becomes powerful, as adults shoot live ammunition behind little children’s shoulders, the TV picks up only the images of children throwing rocks VS Israeli soldiers firing back… a twisted around “David VS Goliath.” [When a picture is not worth a thousand words].

Official Arab-Palestinian TV & religious figures incite to violence, it demonizes Jews as “animals.” (“Supported” by radical Islamic theory of seeing Christians as pigs and Jews as apes).

[Examples of incitement: July 2000: “The Hour [of Resurrection] will not take place until you will fight the Jews and kill them” (Dr. Ahmed Yousuf Abu Halabiyah, member of the Palestinian Sharia [Islamic religious law] Rulings Council, and Director of Advanced Studies, the Islamic University, PA TV, July 28, 2000), October 2000: “Kill them all… we won’t leave a single Jew here.” (Young Girl, PA TV, Oct. 22, 2000), September 2004: “The Hour [of Resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims kill them. The Muslims will kill the Jews, rejoice!” (Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayris, Head of Association for Memorizing the Quran, PA Ministry of Endowments & Religious Affairs, PA TV, September 10, 2004), January 2005: “…and the rock and the tree will say: Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!” (Dr. Hassan Khater, founder of Al Quds Encyclopedia PA TV, January 10, 2005).

Palestinian TV – Suliman Sutari, before thousands of chanting fanatics. (July 8, 2005): “Annihilate the infidels and the polytheists. They’re [Allah’s] enemies and the enemies of the religion. Allah, count them and kill them to the last one, and don’t even leave one.” Little Girl on Palestinian T V: “But I march quickly toward my death.” Little boy on Palestinian T V: “… And we swear to take vengeful blood from our enemies for our killed and wounded.” Muslim cleric Muhsen Abu ‘Ita told Al-Aqsa TV: “The annihilation of the Jews here in Palestine is one of the most splendid blessings for Palestine. This will be followed by a greater blessing, Allah be praised, with the establishment of a Caliphate.” Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayris: “Kill A Jew –Go To Heaven” The Muslims will kill the Jews, rejoice!”
From a Fatah/PA TV Nazi-Like Sermon in 2010: “Fight The Jews & Kill Them — They Are Enemies Of Humanity & Allah”].

Note:
Palestinians (like
Hezbollah) “document” every defensive action by Israel, where the Arabs manage to cause civilian deaths, as “Israeli massacres.”

1991

* Saddam Hussein, the ‘Butcher of Baghdad’ (nicknamed as such for his extraordinary record [in recent history] of mass-murder, mass-torture) invades Kuwait, the U.S. attacks Iraq, Saddam, in return, takes on Israel –for being U.S. ally– with a rain of scuds missiles, fear in Israel and abroad (as it’s still “fresh” – a merely 3 Years after the racist cruel pan-Arab leader gassed his Kurdish population). Miraculously there are no casualties.

1993

* The Oslo agreement between Israel & the Arab-Palestinians proved to be typical of such negotiations where the demands & pressure is put solely on Israel – the one struggling against Arab initiated violence.
The result, not only did it slow down but it rather increased, Arab-Palestinian campaign of violence against Israeli civilians only stepped up mobilization, motivation rose, attacks intensified. Causing frustration among Israelis, Rabin is seen as endangering lives, which led a lone gunman to assassinate him later on.

* When the Oslo Agreements allowed the Palestinian Authority (PA) to print their own resources, it opted to use the Jordanian texts in their original forms. This was the start of the process of incitement. The starting mottos was rewriting history, de-legitimizing Israel’s right to exist, “Palestine” is part of pan-Islamic nation.

The hate industry, instilling flaming-hatred in the young, has become one of the foundations in their overall child-abuse crimes, in a culture of using its children as weapons, child soldiers.

[Textbooks of hate:
Some excerpts from the Arab racism & Islamic bigotry teaching: “The return of the Jews to Palestine and permitting them to establish a Jewish State contradicts history.” (Our Country Palestine from the introduction, pg. ix) – The book is dedicated to: “those who are battling for the expulsion of the enemy from our land!” (Our Country Palestine) – “There will be a Jihad and our country shall be freed. This is our story with the thieving conquerors. You must know, my boy, that Palestine is your grave responsibility.” (Our Arabic Language) – “Remember: The final and inevitable result will be the victory of the Muslims over the Jews.” (Our Arabic Language) – “The honorable soul has two objectives: Achieving death and honor.” (Abd al-Rahim Mahmud’s Song of the Martyr, Sixth Grade) – “The Martyr rejoices in the paradise that Allah has prepared for him.” (Islamic Education for Seventh Grade) – “The Jews claim that this is one of the places belonging to them and call it “The Western Wall”, but this is not so.” (Reader and Literary Texts for Eighth Grade) – “Racism: Mankind has suffered from this evil both in ancient as well as in modern times, for, indeed, Satan has, in the eyes of many people, made their evil actions appear beautiful.Such a people are the J–s.” (Islamic Education for Eighth Grade) – “Lessons to be learned. One must beware of the J–s, for they are treacherous and disloyal.” (Islamic Education for Ninth Grade) – “Subject for Composition: How are we going to liberate our stolen land? Make use of the following ideas: Arab unity, genuine faith in Allah, most modern weapons and ammunition, using oil and other precious natural resources as weapons in the battle for liberation.” (Our Arabic Language for Seventh Grade) – “Martyred Jihad fighters are the most honored people, after the Prophets.” (Reading And Literary Texts for Tenth Grade) – “The clearest examples of racist belief and racial discrimination in the world are Nazism and Zionism.” (The Contemporary History of the Arabs and the World).]

1994

* July, 1994, The Iranian arm ‘
Hezbollah‘ bombs the civilian Jewish center in Argentina [AMIA, the terror group also attacked the embassy in that country 2 years prior], massacring 85 and wounding 300.
The Iranian Imam Mohsen Rabbani says (in Argentina, at the aftermath of the bombing): “Israel must disappear from the face of the Earth.”
The terror attack by Arab-Muslims on Jews in the diaspora, heightened the alert, internationally.

* Oct. 1994, Israel’s Y. Rabin signs a peace treaty with Jordan, the Palestinian-Arab masses inside Jordan (who make up 60% of Jordanians) and in Israel/Palestine area are angered, Hamas vows to continue its campaign of violence “anywhere in the world.”

[As with the “peace-treaty” with Egypt, anti-Jewish campaign, is relentless (
more).]

2000

Second Intifada.
A planned renewal of another wave of bloody violent Intifada was in place, an opportunity to “let it out” came about when Sharon visited the Jewish temple mount, Muslims seized the opportunity to “protest” Sharon’s visit in “their holy place.”
All is fair play to be exploited for terrorism against Israelis. It’s own population: women, children. Even ambulances.

Arafat now had a “perfect” title, in order to galvanize global Islamic support, his people named it the “Al Aqsa Intifada.” The Al-Aqsa is of course the mosque, which Muslims build on top of the historic Jewish temple.
It was boosted up by a staged video, therein an Arab boy Muhammad al-Dura –who as exposed later on as being– shot by Arabs, was mistakenly pinned on Israel. Al-Dura becomes a symbol and an icon and motivates to more violence.

* The Ramallah brutal lynch of 2 Israelis –who lost their way– by Arab Palestinian masses and its police in public square, the sheer animalism of mutilating and “playing” with their body parts while screaming in inhuman ways, revealed the real face of mainstream Arab-Muslim Palestine.
They were describe by a British journalist eyewitness: “they were like animals.” The Italian crew who filmed the crime was threatened by
Arafat‘s people.

(Suicide) Genocide bombings rise, targeting ‘where civilians gather the most,’ to kill as many unarmed Jews as possible.

Among the perpetrators of terror attacks:
Hamas, (Iran’s) Islamic Jihad, Tanzim, Fatah’s Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade [still (2010) exist under Abu Mazen].

A rise of the use of children, use-of-civilians tactics “succeeds” in making Israel look bad.

2001

* Demonization of Israel takes an open anti-Semitic tone at that infamous racist Arab control gathering in Durban in denouncing Zionism (an Arab writer described the Arabs as “racists cry racism“), the Arabs passed along anti Jewish hateful pamphlets at the United Nations.

First vicious successful propaganda of adopting the slur “apartheid” to Israel’s equal democratic state, it followed the above “racism” slur on Zionism.
Arab Palestinian Marwan Bishara published a book (in 2002) “Israel, peace or apartheid.”

The idea behind it was/is to equate any understandable action by Israeli security as “racist” and de-legitimizing its existence just as S. Africa was at the apartheid (segregation between blacks & whites) era, while in fact, there’s no separation between Jews and Arabs (who make up 25% of equal citizens) in Israel, and Jews are required to get through check points just as Arabs do, security tactics are regional, where terrorism is more frequent, nothing “racial.”
Not only are Arabs equal citizens in voting, being elected in government, but have often more rights than Israeli Jews, as they’re exempt from military services without having an effect on their equal benefits as Israeli Jews have, there’s also a policy of affirmative action to empower Arabs.

In 100% apartheid Arab-Palestine, no Jews are allowed to live in.
Not to mention the Arab, Islamic worlds, where real apartheid is rampant against minorities.
Worth reminding that it was A. Shukairy in 1961 at the UN who already came up with the “apartheid” false thesis.
A major boost got the “apartheid” slur, through a (2006) book by Jimmy Carter with a title almost identical to M. Bishara’s, Carter who was always pro Arabism and pro Islamism on the expense of the west, including in Iran, and has been blamed for the change in that country towards the current oppressive Islamic Republic regime resulting in so many crimes on the millions of its citizens since 1979.

Even though, Jimmy Carter himself admitted on CNN (Dec, 12, 2006): “I recognize that Israel is a wonderful democracy with freedom of speech and equality of treatment under the law between Arab Israelis and Jewish Israelis.” Yet he accepted Arab lobby’s money to write that hate book.

* Ordinary Arab Palestinians show their true face of “humanity” by celebrating –dancing, singing, giving out candies to children– the 9/11 Islamic massacre upon 3,000 innocent people in the U.S.

2002

* The height of homicide bombers‘ frequency – between 2002-2005, striking from Tel Aviv to Naharia, from Jerusalem to Be’er Sheva, targeting mostly the innocent unarmed civilians, aboard crowded buses, at bus stops, markets, restaurants, cafeterias, family gatherings, crowds of children, etc. Leaving a long trail of blood of the innocent.
“Joy” on Arab-Palestine streets, dance & jubilation at every major bloody massacre the Arab-Muslims carry out.

*
Pallywood –the term coined due to Palestinian-Arabs’ fake images, fake “reports” industry– steps up with “advanced” lies.
As the Israeli army conducts its anti-terror action in Jenin, where bombers, attackers operate from, the humane IDF is risking its lives, the careful soldiers go from door to door in search of weapons and wanted individuals, all that doesn’t prevent the Palestine authority to stream false reports, of “hundreds” dead in a “massacre” that never was… some were caught faking a “funeral,” they’ve even added dead bodies from a cemetery to the Jenin site to inflate the numbers at the “massacre.”
After the facts [real casualties numbering 50 plus, mostly terrorists, not “
civilians“] were finally revealed, no Arab-Palestinian representative bothered to apologize, PA’s Saeb Erekat simply avoided the question by a [TV, ABC] reporter as to their claims of “500” dead…
On the contrary, the Arab-Palestine leadership have learned that it works pretty well: to lie, smear, before the facts come out, never ever paying for their anti-Israel falsification.
Thus, it will be repeated, again and again, by every Israeli action, to their advantage, still.

2005

* Israel gives away Gaza to the Arab Palestinians, as it roots out Jews from their homes in a most dramatic (non violent) way, this causes not a moderation on the Arab side, on the contrary, Islamic Jihadi Hamas rises as “victorious,” again [like all Israel’s concessions], the Arab side’s taking Israel’s sacrifice for peace as “weakness.”

* The patron of
Hamas, Islamic Jihad & Hezbollah, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s president M. Ahmadinejad (1) calls for Israel to be wiped off map, (2) he also claims that he “denies” the holocaust and (3) pursues nuclear weapons.
In 2007, he said: ‘Israel, US will soon die.’

Note: Regarding Ahmadinejad’s use of Arab-Palestinians. Iran’s Islamic Republic is not very fond of the Arabs, in fact it has frictions with S. Arabia & it persecutes its Arab minority (true, the fascist regime oppresses all, but minorities are subject to extra “special treatment”).

* To get a sense of Arab racism in most “moderate” countries, a PEW poll found in 2005 that most Jordanians viewed Jews unfavorably, none has viewed Jews favorably.

2006

Hezbollah attacks Israel [its missiles reach deep inside Israel], it “improves” Palestinian tactics of using civilians, by firing rockets upon Israeli civilians (in major Israeli cities/towns) from among populated density locations, then, cowardly escaping the area, causing Israelis to fire back. The intended Lebanese casualties cause an uproar in the Arab world, Hezbollah comes out as “heroes.”

2007

Mainstream Arabs in Gaza go radical, vote for totalitarian Islamic party Hamas to become their “democratically elected government.”

A major gathering follows, where thousands of Arab-Palestinians (with a Hamas spokesman) declare they want an Islamic Caliphate.

[About ‘Caliphate’ (Khilafah):
The intention, endlessly repeated, is the establishment of a primitive, messianic caliphate — redeeming Islam and dominating the world.
For radical Islam’s goal is global conquest. The Caliphate: One nation, under Allah, with 1.5 billion Muslims …It would do away with national boundaries and stretch from Indonesia to Morocco.
The ‘Muslim brotherhood’ aims for it and its Islamists who assassinated Anwar el-Sadat in 1981 decorated their holding cages with banners proclaiming the “caliphate or death.”
It’s Al-Qaeda’s grand plan, as its chiefs revealed ‘world domination design’ to take over the world and turn it into an Islamic state the establishment of the “caliphate,” an Islamic super-state that would be ruled according to a Taliban-like version of Islamic totalitarian with strict ‘implementation of pure Islamic doctrine.’ Barak Obama (August, 2007): “They [Muslim extremists] kill man, woman and child; Christian and Hindu, Jew and Muslim. They seek to create a repressive caliphate. To defeat this enemy, we must understand who we are fighting against, and what we are fighting for.”
]

Christians, the tiny minority among the Arabs, who have been subject to persecution by the Islamic majority (Islamic apartheid?), especially since the reign of Y.
Arafat, saw a major rise in oppression with the ascend of Hamas, a number of Christian institutions and members have been attacked or/and threatened.

Hamas backgrounder:
The Jihadi party, has been involved in major anti Israel attacks, its charter calls for the destruction of Israel, its leaders often declare
(including on “moderate” Fatah TV) their desire to annihilate Jews, a sample video showed a Hamas-nick vowing to “drink the blood of the Jews.” In 2007 Hamas’ Mickey Mouse’ (“martyr”) character is teaching Kids to hate and kill, in 2008 On Hamas TV, a toy rabbit who vows to ‘eat Jews’ has being used by Hamas to encourage Palestinian children for violence. Acting Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council Sheik Ahmad Bahr from Hamas, declared during a Friday Sermon at a Sudan Mosque that America and Israel Will Be Annihilated and Called upon Allah to Kill the Jews and the Americans ‘to the Very Last One.’ (More.)

A 2007 Poll: 75% of (all) Palestinians do not think that Israel has the right to exist.

* Israel’s first Arab president. M. Whbee is briefly serving Israel’s acting president. Israel is indeed a multi-racial, multi-religious democracy.
Vs. Arab-Islamic apartheid systems, where all minorities are oppressed..

2008

After 8 years of firing missiles into Israel by Arab-Palestinian leadership – Hamas, especially targeting children (programmed at certain hours when they go to/leave school) in Sderot, Israel decided it had enough, it kicks off ‘Cast lead.‘ Risking the lives of its soldiers in conducting operations against terrorists and weapons stock-piling inside Gaza, and warning the residents to evacuate (clear the way, and move to other areas) before hand. Yet, it was still condemned.
By now, Hamas is not shy in bragging of using children as human shields.

2010

Flotilla jihad
Arab Muslim anti-Israel propaganda picks up steam,
as the current motto is to “make Jews look bad” so they can justify their hatred and create the foundation for their intended ultimate goal of genocide.

A supposed “peace activism” designed to help the
Hamas in Gaza who have been blockaded (after their continuous attacks on Israel’s civilians, in order to stop their weapon smuggling), has been organizing “aid ships” heading to Gaza and confront Israeli security, [incidentally, there are no “aid ships” heading towards the Egyptian border, though that country has the same blockade on the violent Gaza regime, for no one in the Arab-Islamic world cares about Arab-Palestinians, unless it can hurt Israel, a “sacred” goal by leaders, religious clerics, etc.], one such ship, the Flotilla had a major success in damning Israel’s image, after violently attacking the Israelis (who came aboard to check for weapons), 9 Muslims died, an uproar against Israel came about.
Later on, the true intentions of the Islamists on board were revealed, as they were filmed shouting: ‘kill the Jews for Allah’ and in an earlier defying radio exchange with the Israelis who warned them of entering Israeli territory the response from the Islamists aboard the ship was “Shut up! Go back to Auchwitz! We help the Arabs, Remember 9/11!”
There were also revelations that Islamists planned the entire event as “martyrdom.”

The Flotilla was organized by the radical Islamic Turkish group IHH, tied to terrorism, Turkish president Mr. Erdogan who’s representing the Islamic party (linked to the Flotilla), was looking for some time to break his country’s alliance with Israel. He also objected to UN’s sanctions against
Iran for not complying with regards to its nuclear program.
Radicalization of Turkey, in an already volatile region.
In 2011, the UN justified Israel’s action on the Flotilla as well as its blockade against Gaza’s Hamas. Which infuriated Turkey even more.

2011

* September 9, 2011, Arab-Muslim mob in Cairo, Egypt attack the Israeli embassy while shouting “Allahu Akbar.” A CNN [which is never accused of being pro-Israel] reporter described them “they were animals.”
It was following an uprising that toppled the Mubarak regime (where by, at the celebration, hundreds of Arabs, in public, sexually attacked CBS reporter Lara Logan screaming “Jew, Jew!”) the rise of the ‘Muslim Brotherhood” and anti-Israel incitement. A BBC journalist also described how he was subject to anti-Semitism in that country, during this period.

* September 13. Maen Areikat
PLO‘s ambassador to the U.S. declares in Washington D.C. a future “Palestine” State should be “Jew free” (judenrein). This ethnic – religious cleansing (worse than Apartheid) plan causes a major uproar. Especially in light of the intentional REAL apartheid, Vs. Arab-Islamic constant use of the “apartheid slur” unjustifiably.

Note: “Palestinian” PM Mahmoud Abbas’ such racist declaration of a “Palestine” State free of Jews (not even ANY Jews under NATO!) in Cairo on July 28 2010, as well as in Doha on May 28, 2011, caused less of a stir. Particularly, since this 2011 publicized event took place within days before a “Palestinian” plan for a bid at the UN for a separated [all new] State.
Actually, this has always been “Palestinian” stand, A. Shukairy on June 1, 1967: “This is a fight for the homeland-it is either us or the. Israelis. There is no middle road. The Jews of Palestine will have to leave. We will facilitate their departure.”

In short, in 100 Words…

Israel [the multi-racial, equal democracy], its Jewish returnees to their historic homeland, face genocide campaign [at times “just” ethnic cleansing] by Arab-Muslims since the 1920’s. Whether by Arab immigrants, their children – called “Palestinians,” or by [apartheid, almost Judenrein] Arab/Muslim forces [exploiters of Arab-Palestinians] for: power, sheer anti-Jewish hatred [exemplified through dehumanization/incitement], or as part of an overall Jihad towards world domination.
Motivation: Islamic bigotry, Jihad, Arab racism.
The aggressors (Palestinians/Hezbollah) self-made “victims” falsify information/images, define lost battles, casualties resulting from Islamists using civilians (to make humane Israel look bad), as “massacres.”

Watching the anti-human-rights of the so-called “Human Rights Watch” when it comes to the Middle East

Watching the anti-human-rights of the so-called “Human Rights Watch” when it comes to the Middle East

It is long overdue that this (and others like it) come under scrutiny for being systematically blindly anti-Israel biased, distortion of facts and simply obsessive in singling it out, while covering for Arab-Islamic crimes against humanity. [You know when an orgainaztion is in real trouble, when, even, its founding chairman criticizes it for utter and complete failure].

“Human rights” organizations’ conspiracy-collective war on Israelis’ Human Rights.

It doesn’t matter if its (like the UN) influenced by Arab oil / Lobby, Islamic lobby, Arab “street anger,” or impacted by the powerful mythology of “strong Israel vs. poor weak Arab” – (deriving from a distorted image, naively based on looking at a raw-but-shallow picture of balance-of-armament VS reality, underestimating the Goliath power of “Palestinians” and Hezbollah use of their civilians against cautious and Humane Israel) is the source of it, or if it’s by an individual bigot in charge at HRW.

HRW Founder Bernstein Starts Advancing Human Rights (AHR)

March 03, 2011

Robert Bernstein, the founder and former chairman of Human Rights Watch who publicly renounced his ties with the organization due to distorted and disproportionate focus on free and open Israel at the expense of the rest of the Middle East — mostly unfree — has just launched a new human rights organization, Advancing Human Rights.

Why the need for a new organization? Bernstein, 88, explains:

Some human rights organizations, like Human Rights Watch, do not condemn incitement to genocide, Arab hate speech being spewed daily in Gaza, particularly, and Saudi textbooks being taught to young children calling Jews “monkeys and pigs.” Hate speech is the precursor to genocide.

“Human Rights Watch Coverup”
Jerusalem Post
April 13, 2004
By Anne Bayefsky

When it comes to anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias, Human Rights Watch still has a lot of explaining to do notwithstanding Executive Director Ken Roth’s umbrage at criticism.

Roth, however, volunteers a test of his organization’s reliability when it comes to the Arab-Israeli conflict, namely Human Rights Watch’s behavior at the UN’s infamous “anti-racism” conference held in Durban, shortly before 9/11. If the organization’s actions were assailable there, he says, it would make “it easy to reject the objectivity of Human Rights Watch reports on Israeli conduct.”

It is a test that Human Rights Watch fails hands down. I know because I was there as the representative of the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (IAJLJ). Roth himself did not attend.
Just prior to the conference Roth telegraphed his convictions in an interview on US National Public Radio, August 14, 2001, when he said about the pending controversy and the effort to focus attention on Israel: “Clearly Israeli racist practices are an appropriate topic.”
So in the lead-up to Durban, Human Rights Watch fanned the flames of racial intolerance notwithstanding that ‘s citizens are one-quarter Arab and enjoy democratic rights they have nowhere else in the Arab world, while neighboring Arab states are Judenrein.

At Durban one role of Human Rights Watch was to exclude the representative of Jewish lawyers and jurists from over 40 countries. Here’s what happened:
As a representative of the IAJLJ, I was a member of the caucus of international human rights nongovernmental organizations. Human Rights Watch, along with others such as Amnesty International and the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (renamed Human Rights First), was also a member of this caucus. Together we had a right to vote on the final NGO document, and hours before the last session gathered together to discuss our position.
The draft included egregious statements equating Zionism with racism, and alleging that is an “apartheid” state guilty of “genocide and ethnic cleansing designed to ensure a Jewish state.”

As we arrived at our meeting the chief Durban representative of Human Rights Watch, advocacy director Reed Brody, publicly announced that as a representative of a Jewish group I was unwelcome and could not attend. The views of a Jewish organization, he explained, would not be objective and the decision on how to vote had to be taken in our absence. Not a single one of the other international NGOs objected.

THE HUMAN Rights Watch role at Durban? To inhibit Jewish lawyers and jurists from being fairly represented or defended.

Later that afternoon, my colleague Daniel Lack and I insisted on entering the meeting, but their minds were made up. In the face of the flagrant anti-Semitism all around them the group, including HRW had decided neither to approve nor disapprove of the final declaration, and not to vote.

Instead the international NGOs, including HRW planned to introduce an introductory paragraph that would cast the document as a legitimate collection of the “voices of the victims.”

In the evening, as the declaration was considered, a motion was made to delete draft language that had come from the Jewish NGO caucus. The Jewish caucus had proposed including a statement that the demonization of and the targeting of Jews for destruction because of their support for was a form of anti-Semitism.

The vote to delete the Jewish caucus’s proposal succeeded and all Jewish organizations from around the world walked out.

What did Human Rights Watch do? The organization said nothing. It made no move to vote. It stayed. Notwithstanding that the Jewish voices had been silenced, two days later at a press conference, HRW (along with Amnesty International, and the Lawyers Committee/Human Rights First) repeated the claim that the “voices of the victims” had legitimately prevailed at the NGO conference. HRW spokesperson Smita Narula said: “The document gives expression to all voices.”

What else did Human Rights Watch do in Durban? It misrepresented the final outcome to the world press.

AFTER THE fact, Human Rights Watch got nervous about the possible reaction of its many Jewish funders. So the cover-up began.
On September 6, 2001 Human Rights Watch spokespersons Reed Brody and Joel Motley wrote in the Conference News Daily that the NGO declaration “marks a major success… and recognizes the scourge of anti-Semitism.”
They neglected to mention that the declaration had redefined anti-Semitism, changing its meaning from the hatred of Jews to something which included “anti-Arab racism.”

Six months later, in February 2002, Human Rights Watch published an update stating: “What really happened at the World Conference Against Racism in Durban? The conference we participated in was completely different from the one covered in American newspapers.”
What else did Human Rights Watch do after Durban? It denied what happened there.

As for Roth’s claim of the organization’s objectivity in reporting on governments throughout the region, one need look no further than its inability despite an annual budget of $22 million to produce a specific report on human rights abuses in a country like Libya, or the relative paucity of attention over the years given to states with appalling human rights records like Saudi Arabia and Syria, as compared to Israel.

So there should be no surprise when HRW wrongly describes as violating international legal norms, for example, by labeling the killing of someone like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin or Ismail Abu Shanab an “assassination” or “liquidation.”

International law does not protect all combatants from being targeted before judicial process, or grant them immunity from military operations when they use civilians as human shields.

Having the courage to speak out against the tide of hate directed at and the Jewish people is not one of the strengths of Human Rights Watch.
When will this leading international human rights NGO stop believing it has to earn its stripes by demonizing Israel, or that to stay in business it must avoid criticizing Israel’s enemies?
The writer, a professor at York University in , is an international lawyer and a member of the Governing Board of UN Watch, based in Geneva.

By ROBERT L. BERNSTEIN. Published: October 19, 2009. AS the founder of Human Rights Watch, its active chairman for 20 years and now founding chairman …The organization is expressly concerned mainly with how wars are fought, not with motivations. To be sure, even victims of aggression are bound by the laws of war and must do their utmost to minimize civilian casualties. Nevertheless, there is a difference between wrongs committed in self-defense and those perpetrated intentionally.

Pollak: Human Rights Watch is Biased Against Israel – WSJ.com
Jul 30, 2009 – Double Standards and Human Rights Watch
The organization displays a strong bias against Israel
By NOAH POLLAK
Over the past two weeks, Human Rights Watch has been embroiled in a controversy over a fund raiser it held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At that gathering, Middle East director Sarah Leah Whitson pledged the group would use donations to “battle . . . pro-Israel pressure groups.”

As criticism of her remark poured in, Ms. Whitson responded by saying that the complaint against her was “fundamentally a racist one.” And Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, declared that “We report on Israel. Its supporters fight back with lies and deception.”

The facts tell a different story. From 2006 to the present, Human Rights Watch’s reports on the Israeli-Arab conflict have been almost entirely devoted to condemning Israel, accusing it of human rights and international law violations, and demanding international investigations into its conduct. It has published some 87 criticisms of Israeli conduct against the Palestinians and Hezbollah, versus eight criticisms of Palestinian groups and four of Hezbollah for attacks on Israel. (It also published a small number of critiques of both Israel and Arab groups, and of intra-Palestinian fighting.)

It was during this period that more than 8,000 rockets and mortars were fired at Israeli civilians by Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza. Human Rights Watch’s response? In November 2006 it said that the Palestinian Authority “should stop giving a wink and a nod to rocket attacks.” Two years later it urged the Hamas leadership “to speak out forcefully against such [rocket] attacks . . . and bring to justice those who are found to have participated in them.”

In response to the rocket war and Hamas’s violent takeover of Gaza in June 2007, Israel imposed a partial blockade of Gaza. Human Rights Watch then published some 28 statements and reports on the blockade, accusing Israel in highly charged language of an array of war crimes and human rights violations. One report headline declared that Israel was “choking Gaza.” Human Rights Watch has never recognized the difference between Hamas’s campaign of murder against Israeli civilians and Israel’s attempt to defend those civilians. The unwillingness to distinguish between aggression and self-defense blots out a fundamental moral fact—that Hamas’s refusal to stop its attacks makes it culpable for both Israeli and Palestinian casualties.

Meanwhile, Egypt has also maintained a blockade on Gaza, although it is not even under attack from Hamas. Human Rights Watch has never singled out Egypt for criticism over its participation in the blockade.

The organization regularly calls for arms embargoes against Israel and claims it commits war crimes for using drones, artillery and cluster bombs. Yet on Israel’s northern border sits Hezbollah, which is building an arsenal of rockets to terrorize and kill Israeli civilians, and has placed that arsenal in towns and villages in hopes that Lebanese civilians will be killed if Israel attempts to defend itself. The U.N. Security Council has passed resolutions demanding Hezbollah’s disarmament and the cessation of its arms smuggling. Yet while Human Rights Watch has criticized Israel’s weapons 15 times, it has criticized Hezbollah’s twice.

In the Middle East, Human Rights Watch does not actually function as a human-rights organization. If it did, it would draw attention to the plight of Palestinians in Arab countries. In Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are warehoused in impoverished refugee camps and denied citizenship, civil rights, and even the right to work. This has received zero coverage from the organization.

In 2007, the Lebanese Army laid siege to the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp for over three months, killing hundreds. Human Rights Watch produced two anemic press releases. At this very moment, Jordan is stripping its Palestinians of citizenship without the slightest protest from the organization. Unfortunately, Human Rights Watch seems only to care about Palestinians when they can be used to convince the world that the Jewish state is actually a criminal state.

TNR publishes “Minority Report: Human Rights Watch fights a civil war over Israel”
April 28, 2010   Richard Landes
The New Republic has just published a major piece on Human Rights Watch and their deeply disturbed relationship to Israel. Its a case study of demopaths and dupes, human rights complex, masochistic omnipotence syndrome, and the left-jihadi alliance. Below, a few choice passages.

Minority Report
Human Rights Watch fights a civil war over Israel.
Benjamin Birnbaum April 27, 2010 | 12:00 am

[snip]

With Palestinian suicide bombings reaching a crescendo in early 2002, precipitating a full-scale Israeli counterterrorist campaign across the West Bank, HRW’s Middle East and North Africa division (MENA) issued two reports (and myriad press releases) on Israeli misconduct—including one on the Israel Defense Forces’ assault on terrorist safe havens in the Jenin refugee camp. That report—which, to HRW’s credit, debunked the widespread myth that Israel had carried out a massacre—nevertheless said there was “strong prima facie evidence” that Israel had “committed grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions,” irking the country’s supporters, who argued that the IDF had in fact gone to great lengths to spare Palestinian civilians. (The decision not to launch an aerial bombardment of the densely populated area, and to dispatch ground troops into labyrinthine warrens instead, cost 23 Israeli soldiers their lives—crucial context that HRW ignored.) It would take another five months for HRW to release a report on Palestinian suicide bombings—and another five years for it to publish a report addressing the firing of rockets and mortars from Gaza, despite the fact that, by 2003, hundreds had been launched from the territory into Israel. (HRW did issue earlier press releases on both subjects.)

In the years to come, critics would accuse HRW of giving disproportionate attention to Israeli misdeeds. According to HRW’s own count, since 2000, MENA has devoted more reports to abuses by Israel than to abuses by all but two other countries, Iraq and Egypt. That’s more reports than those on Iran, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Syria, Algeria, and other regional dictatorships. (When HRW includes press releases in its count, Israel ranks fourth on the list.) And, if you count only full reports—as opposed to “briefing papers,” “backgrounders,” and other documents that tend to be shorter, less authoritative, and therefore less influential—the focus on the Jewish state only increases, with Israel either leading or close to leading the tally. There are roughly as many reports on Israel as on Iran, Syria, and Libya combined.

HRW officials acknowledge that a number of factors beyond the enormity of human rights abuses go into deciding how to divide up the organization’s attentions: access to a given country, possibility for redress, and general interest in the topic. “I think we tend to go where there’s action and where we’re going to get reaction,” rues one board member. “We seek the limelight—that’s part of what we do. And so, Israel’s sort of like low-hanging fruit.”

[snip]
[Bernstien and] Edith Everett, a member of both the MENA advisory committee and the HRW board, a former stockbroker, and a philanthropist who has donated millions to aid Druze Arabs in Israel, eventually came to believe that their concerns were falling on deaf ears. For Everett, the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war was a turning point. “Participating on the board became most difficult since [that war],” she recalls. While Everett agreed with some of HRW’s critiques—on Israel’s use of cluster munitions, for example—she took issue with many of the organization’s conclusions, including its reporting on human shield use in Lebanon. (In a 2007 report, HRW insisted that Hezbollah fighters did not shield themselves and their weapons among the local civilian population on a widespread basis.) For a long time, Everett had felt there was a healthy exchange about these issues inside HRW, but that had begun to change. “I felt in recent times there was less of a dialogue,” she says. “It seemed to me that there was a commitment to a point of view—that Israel’s the bad guy here.”

[snip]

Robert James—a businessman, World War II veteran, and member of the MENA advisory committee who has been involved with HRW almost since its inception—calls the group “the greatest NGO since the Red Cross,” but argues that it is chronically incapable of introspection. “Bob is bringing this issue up on Israel,” he says. “But Human Rights Watch has a more basic problem. … They cannot take criticism.”

[snip]

Critics have pointed out that a number of Whitson’s colleagues in MENA—such as Joe Stork, who came to HRW after decades as a leader of the left-wing Middle East Research and Information Project, where he was part of an editorial collective that ran an extremely anti-Israel journal—arrived at the organization with backgrounds in the pro-Palestinian movement. Sid Sheinberg argues that the mere appearance of a biased jury at MENA ill-serves HRW. “Is it smart to have a number of people about which questions can be asked—in either direction?” he says. But, when I asked Whitson about this critique—and, specifically, about a former researcher on Israel who, before starting at HRW, wrote pro-Palestinian dispatches from the West Bank and Gaza describing Israeli soldiers as “protected by arrogance and hatred and a state and an army and the world’s superpower”—she said she didn’t see a problem with this situation. “For people who apply for jobs to be the researcher in Israel-Palestine, it’s probably going to be someone who’s done work on Israel-Palestine with a human rights background,” she explained. “And guess what? People who do work with a human rights background on Israel-Palestine tend to find that there are a lot of Israeli abuses. And they tend to become human rights activists on the issue.” For his part, HRW program director Iain Levine, who oversees the organization’s 16 divisions, acknowledges that people from many divisions—and not just MENA—arrive from “solidarity backgrounds,” but insists that, “when they come to the door of this organization, they park those things behind.”

Whether or not Whitson has done so, she clearly favors a tough approach toward the Jewish state. She has argued that, far from being too harsh toward Israel, HRW is actually too lenient. “[B]elieve me,” she wrote in an e-mail to a MENA advisory committee member, “on israel in particular, we are overly cautious and extremely kid-gloved because of the harassment we endure.” Less definitive—but still arguably revealing—evidence about Whitson’s politics can be found in her opinion of Norman Finkelstein, the activist and avowed Hezbollah supporter who has likened Israel to Nazi Germany. The two became acquainted years ago, and she brought him to HRW to discuss his 2005 book Beyond Chutzpah. (“He had a very mixed reception,” she remembers. “I think people did not find his style particularly persuasive.”) In late 2006, when Finkelstein launched a letter-writing campaign demanding that HRW officials apologize for a press release critical of Palestinian officials (which they eventually did), one HRW observer e-mailed Whitson to share thoughts on Finkelstein’s over-the-top rhetoric. Whitson replied: “I agree w/ u that norm undermines himself and his cause w/ the language he uses, and his anger sometimes gets the better of him and his brilliant mind and generous spirit. I continue to have tremendous respect and admiration for him, because as you probably know, making Israeli abuses the focus of one’s life work is a thankless but courageous task that may well end up leaving all of us quite bitter.”

[snip]

Bernstein also raised some of his concerns with then-HRW board member Richard Goldstone, who would go on to write the U.N.’s much-maligned report on the Gaza war. There are few more reviled figures in Israel right now than Goldstone, but even he sympathized with Bernstein on certain points, such as the politicized nature of the U.N. Human Rights Council, which, after being created in 2006, had directed its first nine condemnations at Israel. In March 2008, barely a year before he accepted UNHRC’s mandate to investigate the Gaza war, he told Bernstein that he thought the body’s performance had been hopeless and expressed ambivalence as to whether HRW should continue appearing before it.

He also agreed with Bernstein that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s increasingly aggressive anti-Israel rhetoric, in combination with his threatening policies, was an issue worthy of HRW’s attention. Goldstone pushed Roth to address it, but to no avail. (When I asked Roth in a February interview at his office about HRW’s refusal to take a position on Ahmadinejad’s threats against Israel, including his famous call for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” Roth quibbled about the way the statement had been translated in the West—“there was a real question as to whether he actually said that”—then told me that it was not HRW’s place to render judgments on such rhetoric: “Let’s assume it is a military threat. We don’t take on governments’ military threats just as we don’t take on aggression, per se. We look at how they behave. So, we wouldn’t condemn a military threat just as we wouldn’t condemn an invasion—we would look at how the government wages the war.” Whitson, who sat in on the interview, offered her two cents: “You know, that statement was also matched by Hillary Clinton saying that the Iranian regime should be destroyed or wiped off the map. Again, so, very similar statements, side by side, close in time.” For his part, Goldstone told TNR that he eventually came around to the view this was not an issue HRW should take up.)

Rights group’s dubious recordBy GERALD STEINBERG

In accepting a huge grant from George Soros, Human Rights Watch has spurned the public advice (and warning) offered nearly a year ago by its founder Robert Bernstein. Rather than grapple with the serious problems of credibility and bias, HRW Executive Director Kenneth Roth has cemented relations with Soros — a partisan ideologue who also supports Moveon.org, a controversial advocacy group.

Bernstein severely criticized HRW in a New York Times oped. To “resurrect itself as a moral force in the Middle East and throughout the world,” he warned, the organization must return “to its founding mission and the spirit of humility that animated it.” In its earlier days, he noted, “to create clarity in human rights,” HRW aimed to “draw a sharp line between the democratic and nondemocratic worlds.”

Soros: His $100 million donation to Human Rights Watch will make up for grants lost because of recent scandals. Over the years, HRW lost its moral compass and substituted ideology and an Israel-obsessed agenda. Bernstein was trying to awaken the group’s leaders to the decayed state of what was once a human-rights superpower.

Instead, Roth has opted to accept Soros’ $100 million grant — which should offset nicely the income lost from core donors who’ve walked away in the wake of a host of scandals. It won’t, however, address the root problems.

In May 2009, HRW launched a fund-raising drive in Saudi Arabia, using its anti-Israel record to solicit funds from “prominent members of Saudi society.” That September, HRW “senior military analyst” Marc Garlasco was “outed” as an avid collector of Nazi memorabilia — a troubling hobby for the main author of a number of HRW reports that accused Israel of “war crimes” and other violations.

Add to this the recent work by NGO Monitor, the watchdog group that I lead, and others on the severe ideological biases at HRW’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) division. The systematic research in NGO Monitor’s report and articles in The New Republic and the Sunday Times detail the severe ideological biases of MENA director Sarah Leah Whitson and deputy director Joe Stork.

Both Whitson and Stork came to HRW with backgrounds in pro-Palestinian political activities, and continue to promote their anti-Israel political agendas through their “human rights” work.

Whitson was and remains an advocate of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. In July 2009, she referred to Israel’s “system of apartheid.” Stork’s publications in the Middle East Research and Information Project from the 1980s and 1990s focus on attacking Zionism, Israel and American “imperialism” in the Middle East, while promoting the Palestinian narrative.

This is further evidence of Bernstein’s conclusion that HRW is “helping those who wish to turn Israel into a pariah state.”

The group has relentlessly promoted the UN-commissioned report by one of its former board members, Richard Goldstone — a report that reflects the same biases and dubious research practices as so many recent HRW papers. In 2009, HRW’s 34 pro-Goldstone publications outnumbered its documents on all the countries in the Middle East except Israel and Iran.

The bias is indisputable: HRW’s publications on “Israel and the Occupied Territories” made up 28 percent of its total Mideast output in 2009.

Which makes it a fine fit for George Soros, whose own biases are well-established. In the Middle East, for example, his Open Society Institute exclusively supports advocacy groups that campaign internationally to undermine the elected governments of Israel — organizations such as Adalah, Peace Now, Breaking the Silence, Gisha and Yesh Din.

In extending his control over HRW, Soros seeks to increase its staff by 40 percent, reposition it as a major international player and restore its influence as an arbiter on universal human rights. But while his grant will alleviate the crisis caused by HRW’s declining income, it only deepens the moral crisis.

Only by changing the organization’s hiring practices, research priorities, methodologies and biases — especially at MENA — can Human Rights Watch recover its image as the “gold standard” of human-rights groups.

EXPLODING CRITICISM IN THE WAKE OF CRITICIZING ISRAEL, WHILE ISLAMIC-HEZBOLLAH DELIBERATELY CAUSES CIVILIAN DEATHS IN LEBANON (2006)

First Word: What is ‘Human Rights Watch’ watching – Jerusalem Post
 –  ALAN M. DERSHOWITZ
08/24/2006 16:48

Many former supporters of the organization have become alienated by its obsessive focus on Israel.

When it comes to Israel and its enemies, Human Rights Watch cooks the books about facts, cheats on interviews, and puts out predetermined conclusions that are driven more by their ideology than by evidence. These are serious accusations, and they are demonstrably true. Consider the following highly publicized “conclusion” reached by Human Rights Watch about the recent war in Lebanon between Hizbullah and Israel: “Human Rights Watch found no cases in which Hizbullah deliberately used civilians as shields to protect them from retaliatory IDF attack.” No cases! Anyone who watched even a smattering of TV during the war saw with their own eyes direct evidence of rockets being launched from civilian areas. But not Human Rights Watch.

How could an organization, which claims to be objective, have been so demonstrably wrong about so central a point in so important a war? Could it have been an honest mistake? I don’t think so. Despite its boast that “Human Rights Watch has interviewed victims and witnesses of attacks in one-on-one settings, conducted on-site inspections and collected information from hospitals, humanitarian groups, and government agencies,” it didn’t find one instance in which Hizbullah failed to segregate its fighters from civilians. Nor apparently did HRW even ask the Israelis for proof of its claim that Hizbullah rockets were being fired from behind civilians, and that Hizbullah fighters were hiding among civilians. Its investigators interviewed Arab “eyewitnesses” and monitored “information from public sources including the Israeli government statements.” Human Rights Watch ignored credible news sources, such as The New York Times and The New Yorker. “Hizbullah came to Ain Ebel to shoot its rockets,” said Fayad Hanna Amar, a young Christian man, referring to his village. “They are shooting from between our houses.”
Mr. Amar said Hizbullah fighters in groups of two and three had come into Ain Ebel, less than a mile from Bint Jbail, where most of the fighting has occurred. They were using it as a base to shoot rockets, he said, and the Israelis fired back. – Sabrina Tavernise, “Christians Fleeing Lebanon Denounce Hizbullah,” The New York Times, July 28, 2006. Near the hospital, a mosque lay in ruins. A man approached and told me that he was a teacher at the Hariri school. I asked him why he thought the Israelis had hit a mosque, and he said, simply, “It was a Hizbullah mosque.” A younger man came up to me and, when we were out of earshot of others, said that Hizbullah had kept bombs in the basement of the mosque, but that two days earlier a truck had taken the cache away. – Jon Lee Anderson, “The Battle for Lebanon,” The New Yorker, August 8, 2006. Even if the location of UN posts were known to Israeli commanders, that doesn’t rule out the possibility that Hizbullah fighters used one as a shield from which to unleash fire. They’ve done so in the past, says Maj.-Gen. Lewis MacKenzie (ret’d.), who witnessed the technique while on peacekeeping assignments in the area. “It’s the same as if you set up your weapons systems beside a mosque or a church or a hospital.” – Carlie Gillis, “Diplomacy Under Fire,” MacLean’s, August 7, 2006.
The surgeon led a group of journalists over what remained: mangled debris, shredded walls and a roof punched through by an Israeli shell. “Look what they did to this place,” Dr. Fatah said, shaking his head. “Why in the world would the Israelis target a hospital?” The probable answer was found a few hours later in a field nearby. Hidden in the tall grass were the burned remnants of a rocket-launcher.

Confronted with the evidence, Dr. Fatah admitted his hospital could have been used as a site from which to fire rockets into Israel. – Sonia Verma, “Hizbullah’s Deadly Hold on Heartland,” National Post, August 5, 2006. [Samira] Abbas said, she heard from relatives that her house in Bint Jbeil had been destroyed. She said Hizbullah fighters had gathered in citrus groves about 500 yards from her home. – Mohamad Bazzi, “Mideast Crisis – Farewell to a Soldier; Reporting from Lebanon; Running Out of Places to Run,” Newsday, July 28, 2006 “What that means is, in plain English, ‘We’ve got Hizbullah fighters running around in our positions, taking our positions here and then using us for shields and then engaging the (Israeli Defense Forces),'” said [Lewis] MacKenzie, who led Canadian peacekeepers in Bosnia. – Steven Edwards, “UN contradicts itself over Israeli attack,” CanWest News Service, July 27, 2006. It was also reported that Hizbullah fired from the vicinity of five UN positions at Alma Ash Shab, At Tiri, Bayt Yahoun, Brashit, and Tibnin. – United Nations interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Naqoura, July 28, 2006 (Press Release).
While these pictures have escaped the ravaged country, other images and footage taken by local newspaper and television teams are routinely seized by armed Hizbullah fighters at road blocks. In one image a group of fighters, including youths, are preparing to fire an anti-aircraft gun just metres from an apartment block with laundry sheets drying on a balcony.
Others show a Hizbullah fighter armed with a nickel-plated AK47 rifle guarding no-go zones after Israeli blitzes. Another depicts the remnants of a Hizbullah Katyusha rocket in the middle of a residential block, blown up in an Israeli air attack. The Melbourne man who smuggled the shots out of Beirut told yesterday how he was less than 400m from the block when it was obliterated. “Hizbullah came in to launch their rockets, then within minutes the area was blasted by Israeli jets,” he said. “Until the Hizbullah fighters arrived, it had not been touched by the Israelis. Then it was devastated. “After the attacks they didn’t even allow the ambulances or the Lebanese Army to come in until they had cleaned the area, removing their rockets and hiding other evidence The fighters used trucks, driven into residential areas, as launch pads for the rockets, he said. Another image shows a line of decimated trucks sitting behind a 5m crater.
The tourist who smuggled the images back to Melbourne said the trucks had been carrying rockets. The release of the images comes as Hizbullah fighters face increasing censure for using innocent civilians as “human shields.” – Chris Tinkler, “Revealed: How Hizbullah puts the innocent at risk; They don’t care,” Sunday Mail (Australia), July 30, 2006.

HOW COULD Human Rights Watch have ignored – or more likely suppressed – this evidence from so many different sources? The only reasonable explanation is that they wanted there to be no evidence of Hizbullah’s tactic of hiding behind civilians. So they cooked the books to make it come out that way.

Even after the fighting ended and all the reports of Hizbullah hiding among civilians were published, HRW chief Kenneth Roth essentially repeated the demonstrably false conclusions that “in none of those cases was Hizbullah anywhere around at the time of the attack.” So committed is Human Rights Watch to its predetermined conclusions that it refused to let the facts, as reported by objective sources, get in its way. Many former supporters of Human Rights Watch have become alienated from the organization, because of, in the words of one early supporter, “their obsessive focus on Israel.” Within the last month, virtually every component of the organized Jewish community, from secular to religious, liberal to conservative, has condemned Human Rights Watch for its bias. Roth and his organization’s willful blindness when it comes to Israel and its enemies have completely undermined the credibility of a once important human rights organization.

Human Rights Watch no longer deserves the support of real human rights advocates. Nor should its so-called reporting be credited by objective news organizations.

Human Rights Watch: Irrelevant, Immoral on Mideast Conflict
By Abraham H. Foxman
National Director of the Anti-Defamation League
This article originally appeared in The New York Sun on August 2, 2006

Human Rights Watch has come out with a stinging attack on Israel for its actions in the conflict against Hezbollah, calling the tragedy in Qana a “war crime.”

Since Human Rights Watch is not an organization that has ignored human rights issues in the Arab world — it has done studies on such issues as human rights violations in Egypt and suicide bombings — what the organization says is given much weight and credibility in certain circles.

The truth is, however, that the overwhelming thrust of Human Rights Watch work regarding Israel and the Arab world falls on Israel. Included was a rush to judgment in its accusation that Israel in Jenin had committed war crimes in seeking out suicide bombers, as well as the fact that in one year (2004), according to NGO Monitor, of 33 HRW documents dealing with Israel, 25 were critical of the Jewish State.

More significantly, there are questions about HRW’s broader perspective in its work in the Middle East. Kenneth Roth falls back on technical interpretations to justify what his organization criticizes and what it doesn’t. He says that it doesn’t go into the cause of war. He doesn’t want to talk about the intentions of various parties. He doesn’t want to look at the larger picture because, he claims, all of this would undermine the neutral posture that gives his organization credibility.

More than any specific criticism, it is this explanation of what HRW is about that is so problematic. First, he inappropriately compares his organization in this respect to the Red Cross, but that body has a very different purpose. HRW, by its reports and statements, has a major impact on political judgments.

Far more important is that his explanation of HRW’s perspective — at least as it applies to the conflict of Israel and the Arab world — leads inevitably to the conclusion that HRW is either irrelevant or immoral, or maybe both. On one level, his explanations of all the factors that don’t come into play when doing analyses and passing judgment should lead to the conclusion that they truly aren’t relevant to the fundamental issues of peace, war, and justice that are embodied in a conflict such as this. If the intentions of Syria and Iran are not to be examined, if the takeover of part of a country by a terrorist group committed to the destruction of Israel is not something important, if the continuous flow of rockets, launchers and other weapons from Iran and Syria to an illegitimate group is not worthy of consideration, then ultimately why should anyone take seriously what Human Rights Watch has to say?

On a deeper level, one can conclude that despite painting itself as a great moral arbiter, in fact Human Rights Watch’s approach to these problems is immorality at the highest level. Let’s remember that Israel has been able to survive and prosper in a region where it has been surrounded by neighbors, close and far, who have been committed to Israel’s destruction for five decades, because of one reason: its strength and power of deterrence.

The State of Israel, which emerged out of the ashes of the Holocaust, understood early on that it must be able to convince its enemies that attacking the tiny Jewish State would be a big mistake. Israel had to make clear to the Arabs that they would be hurt far, far more than the pain they could inflict. In other words, without Israel hitting back (not in an “eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth” fashion which Mr. Roth cited and is a classic anti-Semitic stereotype about Jews) but in a much stronger way, Israel would have been destroyed long ago.

The moral issue, the human rights issue that overrides everything else in this conflict is that if Hezbollah, Syria and Iran don’t understand that they will pay an overwhelming price for these rocket attacks on Israel, then eventually the rockets will be armed with chemical weapons and the warheads with nuclear weapons. In other words, a second Holocaust would be in the works.

So yes, Israel is striking very hard at Hezbollah and the infrastructure that allows it to operate and to receive weapons from Iran and Syria. And yes, there are tragically civilian casualties. Israel must do everything in its power to limit these casualties. But it is Hezbollah that has cynically created a dilemma for Israel by embedding their missiles not only in civilian areas, but literally in civilian households. The dilemma for Israel was: should it be so careful to avoid civilian casualties — for its own sake, for the sake of the Lebanese people and their attitudes toward Israel, and for world opinion — that Israel would not effectively destroy the missile threat that was turning northern Israel into a hell for its residents? Or, should Israel strike at Hezbollah with significant force, inevitably producing civilian casualties because of the placement of missiles, which would turn the people of Lebanon and the world against Israel? Israel has sought its way through this minefield. It has tried both to protect its people and to limit civilian casualties.

It is no accident that Human Rights Watch gets it wrong or has a habit of rushing to judgment as it did in Jenin and as it did in Qana. If one sees military activity by Israel in a vacuum, ignoring the threats to its security and existence, ignoring the intentions and growing capabilities of its enemies, ignoring the cynical actions of its foes which seek either to hurt Israel and its citizens on the ground or to make Israel look bad in the eyes of the world, then, of course, Israel will look like the neighborhood bully and will be accused of all kinds of things.

I would therefore recommend that Human Rights Watch be viewed for what it is, at least when it comes to the great struggle in the Middle East that may determine not only the future of the State of Israel but of mankind itself: as irrelevant or immoral.

Roth’s False God
Editorial of The New York Sun | August 8, 2006

After The New York Sun ran an editorial and two op-ed pieces taking Human Rights Watch to task for anti-Israel bias, the organization’s executive director, Kenneth Roth, has finally found it in himself to denounce Hezbollah for placing troops and weapons near Lebanese civilians. And to acknowledge, for the first time, that the use of ambulances by Palestinian groups to transport weapons or suicide bombers is “a clear humanitarian violation.” We’re tempted to congratulate Mr. Roth. Too bad it had to be wrung out of him.

Call us optimists, but we still hold out hope that Mr. Roth will abandon his view, expressed in a letter to the editor printed in the adjacent column, that the Israeli government defending itself from Islamist terrorist aggression is engaged in “extremist interpretations of religious doctrine” like the terrorists themselves. Maybe in his next letter to us he’ll finally concede, too, that, as widely reported, the Iranian military is in Lebanon. Maybe he’ll concede that the fact that Hezbollah was not “in sight” is no evidence they were not there. Until then, Mr. Roth and his donors, staff, and board of directors should be aware that the American Jewish community recognizes with full clarity what Mr. Roth and Human Rights Watch are up to. It is unmistakable.

The three main religious movements of American Jewry — Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform — agree, for once. A spokesman for the Agudath Israel of America, an Orthodox group, Rabbi Avi Shafran, called Mr. Roth’s statements “loathsome” and likened him to Mel Gibson, the actor who, unlike Mr. Roth, at least had the decency to apologize for his outburst. The executive vice president of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Rabbi Jerome Epstein, said the position of Mr. Roth and Human Rights Watch is “so biased and outrageous it is hard to take it seriously.” The national director of the Anti-Defamation League, Abraham Foxman, said Mr. Roth deployed “a classic anti-Semitic stereotype,” and said Human Rights Watch is “irrelevant or immoral.” A spokesman for the Union for Reform Judaism, Emily Grotta, said, “Abe Foxman has been speaking out about this recently and we agree with what he has been saying.”

The executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Malcolm Hoenlein, told us of Human Rights Watch that he was “disturbed by its apparent bias.” The president of the Zionist Organization of America, Morton Klein, said Mr. Roth of Human Rights Watch “is not only naïve, but shows his hatred toward Jews and Israel is greater than his hatred of Islamist terror.” The general counsel of the American Jewish Congress, Marc Stern, called Human Rights Watch’s position “a problem,” and said, “to elevate a mistake to the level of war crime is outrageous.” A spokesman for the American Jewish Committee, Kenneth Bandler, said the statements by Human Rights Watch and Mr. Roth “display a real lack of understanding.”

American Jewry stands with the Israeli government on the point. Israel’s ambassador to Canada, Alan Baker, a former legal adviser to Israel’s foreign ministry, a few months back told us of Human Rights Watch, after the organization wrote to President Bush calling for an end to all American aid to Israel, “They’ve lost their credibility.” Even Human Rights Watch’s founding chairman, Robert Bernstein, who led the organization from 1979 to 1997, is dismayed and pained at the stance the group he founded has been taking against the Jewish state, according to several individuals to whom Mr. Bernstein confided his discomfort with the organization he helped found. Mr. Bernstein declined to comment.

Mr. Roth sneers at “religious doctrine” and “Biblical injunctions” from the Torah. In an earlier letter to this page, he referred to them as the “morality of some more primitive moment.” He belittles any distinction between a terrorist group whose goal is to kill Jews, eradicate Israel, and impose Islamist law worldwide, and a pluralist sovereign state, like Israel, that apologizes and investigates when it kills civilians in the course of trying to protect its civilians and borders from the terrorist group. Human Rights Watch recently called on America to cease immediately arms transfers to Israel. If Mr. Roth’s Yale Law School degree and international law dictate cutting off Israel’s arms as it is under assault by a terrorist group out to destroy it and deliberately kill its civilians, we’ll take the Bible any day. One doesn’t need a Yale Law School degree or expertise in international law to know Israel is different from the terrorists, just a basic moral compass.

Mr. Roth’s own moral compass seems to go haywire whenever Israel is involved. More reputable scholars of international law, like Orde Kittrie writing in Saturday’s Wall Street Journal, disagree with Human Rights Watch’s conclusions. So do President Bush and a consensus in Congress and among the American public, which have supported Israel’s right to defend itself. Siding with Human Rights Watch in criticizing Israel have been the governments of Iran and Communist China, two of the worst human rights abusers of them all.

Mr. Roth may send us another letter, conceding another point or two along the way. Or not. But this is about more than Mr. Roth and his organization. The moral equivalence that has infected him and his organization has, sadly, spread far on much of the left, from the United Nations to the International Red Cross and Amnesty International and the editorialists of the New York Times, who yesterday, stunningly, said any ceasefire they would favor must allow Hezbollah “to claim some sort of victory.” That such confusion has not gained traction among American Jews or, for that matter, on the Christian right in this country is testament to the bond of shared values between America and Israel. Those values have a base in something higher than the false god of international law before whom Kenneth Roth has brought a once-idealistic institution so low.

Early in the morning, the bus departed from Avivim heading with its passengers to two local schools. This route had been scouted by the militants, believed to have infiltrated from Lebanon, and an ambush was set up. As the bus passed by, ten minutes after leaving Avivim, it was attacked by heavy gunfire from both sides of the road. The driver was amongst those hit in the initial barrage, as were the two other adults on board. The three were killed as the bus crashed into an embankment as the attackers continued firing into the vehicle.

The children, who were in first to third grade, were buried in a special plot in Safed. A monument commemorating the victims of the attack stands in the middle of the moshav.

Terrorism: How Democracies Can Defeat Domestic and International Terrorists, Benjamin Netanyahu defines it this way: “Terrorism is the deliberate and systematic assault on civilians to inspire fear for political ends.” PLO terrorists sought to victimize children as one of their most devastating weapons of fear against Israel. Perhaps these two examples will indicate how these people operate. In April 1974 three terrorists entered a school in Kiryat Shmonah, a town in northern Israel. Unknown to the terrorists, the schoolchildren were away on a trip. So the terrorists used the weapons intended for the massacre of the schoolchildren on nearby residents, killing eight adults and eight children in an apartment building close to the school. Israeli soldiers trapped the terrorists inside the building, but the Palestinians were killed when their own explosives were detonated.
In May of that year, Palestinian terrorists struck another northern town, Ma’ alot. During the early morning hours the terrorists fired on motorists, killing an Arab woman; then they murdered an entire family asleep in their home.

Nine years after the Sbarro massacre – Jerusalem Post

By FRIMET ROTH
08/09/2010 11:34

We, the bereaved families who feel the pain of terror every day must remind Israelis what ‘releasing prisoners’ for Gilad Schalit entails.

It’s been nine years since my daughter Malki was murdered in the suicide bombing of Jerusalem’s Sbarro restaurant and terrorism denial is still rampant.

[…] This campaign could not have galvanized so many – some estimate 200,000 joined its eleven-day march to Jerusalem last month – without the groundwork laid by terrorism denial. Were the faces of the 1,000 innocent Israelis murdered during the second intifada still fresh in Israelis’ minds, warnings about the dangers of a mass prisoner release would not be dismissed as casually and as persistently as they are being now.

The statistics are chilling. According to government numbers, some 45 percent of released terrorists return to terrorism, while the rate of recidivism among Hamas members is 63%. And yet these numbers impact fewer and fewer Israelis.

[…] Ahlam Tamimi is one prisoner that Hamas wants freed. As a woman, she garners much sympathy for their cause. The mere mention of “woman” and “prison” in one sentence is a surefire tearjerker.

But here are the facts. Tamimi is a mega-terrorist. She is responsible for the deaths of fifteen men, women and children, all of them civilians. She transported 10 kg of explosives hidden in a guitar case into west Jerusalem, handed them to her accomplice and escorted him through the city center disguised as a Western tourist. She led him to the target she herself had selected, an eatery filled with families eating lunch. She then warned her “weapon” to wait fifteen minutes before he detonated the bomb – allowing her enough time to escape unharmed.

After her conviction, Tamimi smiled with pleasure upon learning from an interviewer how many children she murdered. She told Ynet: “I am not sorry for what I did. I will get out of prison and I refuse to recognize Israel’s existence… Discussions will only take place after Israel recognizes that this is Islamic land.” She has served only six years out of sixteen consecutive life terms.

[…] Here is “the face of a beautiful Israeli” I would like this country to see today. It’s the face of a fifteen-year-old girl who cared passionately about disabled children and volunteered with them in myriad settings. Who loved and nurtured her own profoundly disabled sister unconditionally. Who studied the flute for years and played classical music on it that brought tears to my eyes. Who kept a diary throughout the last year of her life in which she detailed her activities in school and in her youth movement. Who recorded alongside those anecdotes the names of the victims of every terror attack perpetrated that year. Whose wish for the coming new year, which she did not live to see, was that her family remain close and supportive of one another. It is the face of my daughter, Malki, z”l.

On August 9th for the last eight years, I have urged others to remember the Sbarro bombing and its fifteen victims. One of them was Malki. Five others were the members of one family, a mother, father and three of their eight children. Another victim was an only child who was pregnant with what would have been her parents’ first grandchild. One of the “injured,” not even counted among the fifteen dead, is a young mother who has remained in a deep coma since that day.

This year, I beg you not only to remember them but to also to remind another person, someone who may have fallen prey to terrorism denial.

Arab-Islamic “Palestinians” [disguised as “soldiers”] in a cold blooded shooting spreee of 4 Israelis – go after and murder 5 year old Danielle Shefi, in her bed… April, 2002

Danielle Shefi, five years old, was one of four victims in an attack at the settlement of Adora, near Hebron, in April 2002. The terrorists shot her while she was playing in her parents’ bedroom together with her two younger brothers.

Killed in Her Cradle
New York Post April 28, 2002 — An adorable 5-year-old Israeli girl was slaughtered in her bed yesterday – her mom looking on in horror as her daughter’s blood spilled out across the covers. The girl, Danielle Shefi, was one of four Israelis slain when Palestinian gunmen, disguised as Israeli soldiers, sneaked into a West Bank Jewish settlement and moved house to house spraying people with bullets, as many residents were attending Sabbath services in a temple.

Shefi was killed when three cold-blooded gunmen infiltrated the Adora settlement, just west of Hebron, through a perimeter fence at about 9 a.m. local time.  Danielle’s cop father, Yaakov Shefi, said his wife, Shiri, was cuddling with their daughter and two small sons in an upstairs bedroom when gunmen burst into their home and opened fire.

“Anyone capable of looking a 4-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl in the face and then shooting them is not human,” said Yaakov, fighting back tears of sadness and anger. “Shiri saw our daughter breathe her last breath.”

After hearing gunfire in the distance, Shefi said he rushed home from the temple and found two of the gunmen, clad in Israeli army uniforms. “I thought they were soldiers,” he said. “I asked them, ‘What’s happening? Is everything all right?’ They opened fire at me.”  Another gunman shot his way into a nearby home, blowing away Katya Greenberg, 45, in her bed and wounding her husband, Vladimir, and 14-year-old son, Nathan.  The dead also included two men, ages 20 and 50, who were gunned down in the street.

Anat Harari was one of eight people wounded in the attack, the latest Arab massacre since Israel launched the four-week-old military campaign to hunt down Palestinian militants – and just a day before a U.N. fact-finding team is set to arrive in the area.

“I am on the floor, bleeding in a pool of blood,” Anat tearfully recounted.

“The terrorist tried to enter the house . . . He passed from window to window and didn’t stop shooting.”

The ruthless attackers escaped, but one of them was fatally shot in the neighboring Arab village of Taffuh in a massive manhunt launched after the bloodbath.

Israeli officials condemned the Sabbath slaughter – and said it only strengthens their resolve to crush the Palestinians.

“We will show all the world the beds in which innocent people were murdered by the Palestinians on the Sabbath, so the world will know where the massacres are taking place,” said Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Israel’s defense minister…

US condemns killing of five Israelis in Itamar attack

By REUTERS
03/12/2011 18:55

White House calls on PA “to unequivocally condemn this terrorist attack and for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to be held accountable.”

WASHINGTON – The United States on Saturday called the stabbing deaths of five Israelis in the West Bank settlement of Itamar a terrorist attack and urged the Palestinian Authority to “unequivocally” condemn the killings.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the murder of five Israelis in a terrorist attack in the northern West Bank, and we offer our condolences to their loved ones and to the Israeli people,” the White House said in a statement.

A Jewish couple and three of their children were stabbed to death in Itamar on Saturday in what Israeli officials said was an attack by a Palestinian who broke into their home in the early hours.

“There is no possible justification for the killing of parents and children in their home,” The White House said.
“We call on the Palestinian Authority to unequivocally condemn this terrorist attack and for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to be held accountable.”

Five Israelis murdered by Palestinians at Itamar were Gaza evacuees
DEBKAfile Special Report March 12, 2011, 9:53 AM (GMT+02:00)

The five members of the Israeli family murdered at Itamar on the West Bank, Friday night, March 11, have been identified as Udi Vogel, 38, the father; his wife Ruth Vogel, 35, their sons Yoav, 11 and Elad, 3 and their four-month old daughter Hadas. The three children who survived are Roi, 8, Yishai, 2 and their sister Tamar, aged 12, who found the victims when she arrived home later that night.
The family moved to Itamar after Jewish communities were forcibly evicted from the Gaza Strip in 2007 as part of the Sharon government’s disengagement plan.
The terrorists had broken through the fence guarding the sleeping settlement and entered the Vogel home through an open window without raising an alarm.
Military and police units fanned out to hunt the perpetrators and set up checkpoints. Hamas websites hailed the murder as a “heroic operation,” without taking responsibility.
This attack is the first of its kind in years. Hamas Websites hailed the murder as “heroic,” without taking responsibility.

Massacre of Jewish Babies, Children in Israel Lacks Condemnation As Netanyahu Demands UN Action

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel
March 12, 2011 ….. Part of the following was communicated by the Israel Government Press Office to the Israel News Agency.

As many in Israel shed a tear, they shake their heads and question: “how can an animal stab a 4-month-old baby to death”?

Most of the world’s nations remain quiet, few condemnations have come forth as Islamic Gaza residents from the southern city of Rafah have poured out onto the streets to celebrate the terror attack in West Bank town of Itamar, in which five family members were murdered in their sleep. These “democratic” and “peace loving” nations are quick to grab headlines in criticizing the natural growth of cities and towns in the West Bank – Judea and Samaria – but when it comes to the innocent blood of Jewish children, they are nowhere to be seen.

Arab oil over democracy and basic human rights?

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated this evening: “I would like to express my deep outrage, outrage which is certainly felt by every Israeli over the murder of a young family – father, mother, eleven-year-old boy, four-year-old-boy and four-month-old girl.”

“Three orphaned children have been left in this family. One of the girls saw her parents and siblings stabbed to death. The family was brutally murdered in their sleep on the Sabbath. We embrace and support the orphans and the other members of the family. We embrace and support our brothers who reside in Judea and Samaria. Do not be disheartened. I know that this is a difficult time for us, but the entire nation is with you. Since the disaster, this awful murder, became known I have held discussions with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Israel Defense Forces Chief-of-Staff, Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, ISA Director Yuval Diskin and other senior security officials. I instructed them to make every effort to find the murderers and not to rest until they have been found and brought to justice.”

Netanyahu added: “I expect the international community to sharply and unequivocally condemn this murder, the murder of children. I have noticed that several countries that always hasten to the UN Security Council in order to condemn Israel, the state of the Jews, for planning a house in some locality, or for laying some tiles somewhere have been dilatory in sharply condemning the murder of Jewish infants. I expect them to issue such condemnations immediately, without balances, without understandings, without justifications. There is no justification and there can be neither excuse nor forgiveness for the murder of children. I expect a similar condemnation, and I demand a similar condemnation, from the Palestinian Authority. I am disappointed by the weak and mumbled statements. This is not how one condemns terrorism. This is not how one fights terrorism. See how Israeli prime ministers, myself among them, have reacted in similar situations, but there has never been anything like this, in which terrorists entered a home and cut children’s throats.”

“This requires sharp and unequivocal condemnation. This requires something else. This requires a halt to the incitement. I demand that the Palestinian Authority stop the incitement that is conducted on a daily basis in their schools, mosques and the media under their control. The time has come to stop this double-talk in which the Palestinian Authority outwardly talks peace, and allows – and sometimes leads – incitement at home. The time has come to stop the incitement and begin educating their people for peace.”

Israel’s Prime Minister concluded: “Despite all the awful pain, I call upon all Israelis to act responsibly, with restraint, and not to take the law into their own hands. When one takes the law into his own hands, there is no law. The IDF and the security forces will carry out their responsibilities; only they. We will not allow terrorism to determine the settlement map. The settlement map will be determined by Government policy, which is in accordance with our national interests, with security first and foremost. Terrorism will not determine the settlement map. We will determine it.”

Udi Fogel, 36, his wife Ruth, 35, and their children Yoav, 11, Elad, 4 and Hadas, 3 months were all stabbed to death.

The funeral for the five members of the Fogel family, murdered in a terror attack in the West Bank town of Itamar on Friday night is scheduled to take place in Jerusalem on Sunday.

Rafah residents hand out candy following murder of parents, three children in West Bank settlement of Itamar. Palestinian PM denounces act, says “we categorically oppose violence and terror, regardless of victims’, perpetrators’ identity”

Gaza residents from the southern city of Rafah hit the streets Saturday to celebrate the terror attack in the West Bank settlement of Itamar where five family members were murdered in their sleep, including three children.

Residents handed out candy and sweets, one resident saying the joy “is a natural response to the harm settlers inflict on the Palestinian residents in the West Bank.”

Arab Racism & Islamic Bigotry

10, 2007 FrontPageMag

All minorities living within the Arab world are under siege. Tunisian human rights activist Muhammad Bechri has traced this to the “twin fascisms” – his term – that dominate the Arab world, Islamism and pan-Arabism.

(Re: Jimmy Carter) Sudan and Israel’s suffering of Arab Racism
http://geraldahonigman.com/blog.php?id=P98

Muslim Judeophobia is not as is commonly claimed a reaction to the Mideast conflict but one of its main “root causes.” It has been fueling Arab rejection of a Jewish state long before Israel’s creation.

The ‘other’ in Islamism

…On the one hand, Hamas displays an ‘almost blind hatred’ and racism against Jews, partly inspired by European antisemitism (Milton-Edwards, 1996: 185). Israel, Jews and Zionism are viewed as one entity. On the other hand, Hamas discusses Israel in a religious perspective and regards Jews as a dhimmi people. The conflict between Palestinians and Israelis was not solely between two peoples, but between believers and non-believers. Ultimately, it was a conflict between ‘right’ and ‘wrong. ‘good’ and ‘evil’.

History Upside Down: The Roots of Palestinian Fascism and the Myth of Israeli Aggression
In the United Nations, on university campuses, and among a growing number of our most prestigious Western newspapers, the historical record has been rewritten so thoroughly that Israel is seen as the worst of the oppressive Western occupiers of the Third World. So successful has this propaganda campaign been that Palestinian spinmeisters and their apologists have effectively declared the Israelis, a people living in the shadow of the Holocaust, to be “Nazis.” How could this happen? How did unacceptable anti-Semitism morph into justifiable anti-Zionism, and odious Jew-hatred turn into a politically correct Israel-hatred? In History Upside Down, David Meir-Levi exposes the ideological DNA of Palestinian nationalism and its ludicrous “alternative” histories, revealing how Nazi fascism gave the Arab world’s amorphous hatred of the Jews an intellectual structure and how Soviet communism masked its genocidal intentions with the mantle of national liberation.
Meir-Levi then explodes the cornerstone myths that the Palestinian movement created–myths that rationalize and celebrate decades of unremitting terror and genocidal ambitions, turning the history of the Middle East upside down and inside out, making the victim the aggressor and the aggressor the victim. History Upside Down is the first wave in a counterattack against this Arab war on history. It rejects the idea that the basic situation in the Middle East has changed since the United Nations first established the Jewish state and the Palestinian state that would have stood alongside it. Sadly, argues Meir-Levi, the issue in the Middle East is today what it has been since the Muslim invasion in the seventh century: the Arabs’ hatred of the Jews.

Arab racism must go – There will be no peace around here before Arabs view Jews as human beings.
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3478505,00.html

It’s about the bigotry … Make no mistake: Arab racism is killing Jews. These bigoted myths and conspiracy theories brainwash Palestinian children to commit suicide bombings against Jews. Innocent children play death games, such as collecting “martyr” cards with pictures of suicide bombers.”

Racism in the Islamic World: How can peace prevail in the Middle East in the face of Islamic bigotry and hate?
http://www.factsandlogic.org/ad_94b.html

What role does bigotry play in the Arab-Israeli conflict?
Al Da’wa (The Mission), a prominent Islamic publication, identifies the status of Israel with the status of the individual Jew. Here, Israel is merely the Jew in macrocosm: “The race is corrupt at the root, full of duplicity, and the Muslims have everything to lose in seeking to deal with them; they must be exterminated.”
Following are some recent statements by senior PA officials, all of which are flagrantly anti-Jewish and several of which incorporate sordid anti-Jewish stereotypes…
– Palestinian representative Nabil Ramlawi at a session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, Jerusalem Post, March 17 1997.
The theme of Palestine as the grave of Israel and of the Jews in general is a persistent motif in Arab orientations toward Israel. Here the following claim, made by Dr. Yahya al-Rakhawi in Al-Akhbar, the organ of Egypt’s Liberal Party, on July 19, 1982, is typical:
“When the State of Israel was established and…was recognized by many, in both East and West, one of the reasons for this recognition was the desire of the people in the East and West to get rid of as many as possible of the representatives of that human error known as the Jews. Behind this motive was another, secret purpose: to concentrate them in one place, so that it would be easier to strike at the right moment.”
The Peel Commission Report stated in 1937 [Q: When was Israel established? A: 1948] that the conflict between the Arabs’ and the Jews’ aspirations is “irrepressible” and “irreconcilable” and that it is “difficult to be an Arab patriot and not to hate the Jews.”
The hatred never subsides. It is developed and nurtured every hour, every day through all possible means. It is encouraged in kindergartens, schools and universities where the Arab children and youngsters learn that the Jews are their enemies. It is preached in mosques where the “Zionist entity” is presented as an eternal threat to the Moslem world. It is flourishing in refugee camps where the Jews are known as “the usurpers and barbarians that have expelled the ‘poor’ Palestinian Arabs from their homes.” It is pouring like venom from newspaper pages in every Arab country.
New blood libels are created and the old ones are revived. The Arab world has an enemy–Israel. Anything bad that is happening is blamed on Israel. This is why, after the decision of the German government to reconsider its ties with Iran, due to killings in Germany of members of the Iranian opposition, a demonstration several hundred thousand people strong was staged in Iran under a slogan, “Death to Israel!”

Egyptian cleric: The Jews “are enemies not because they occupied Palestine. They would have been enemies even if they did not occupy a thing.” [March 6, 2009 ]

They keep telling us that it isn’t about “stolen land,” and that land concessions and even the creation of a Palestinian state will not end the conflict. And we keep refusing to believe it.

“Egyptian Cleric Muhammad Hussein Ya’qoub: The Jews Are the Enemies of Muslims Regardless of the Occupation of Palestine,” from MEMRI TV, January 17 (just posted), with thanks to Sr. Soph:

Following are excerpts from a speech delivered by Egyptian cleric Muhammad Hussein Ya’qoub, which aired on Al-Rahma TV on January 17, 2009.

Muhammad Hussein Ya’qoub: If the Jews left Palestine to us, would we start loving them? Of course not. We will never love them. Absolutely not. The Jews are infidels not because I say so, and not because they are killing Muslims, but because Allah said: “The Jews say that Uzair is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that Christ is the son of Allah. These are the words from their mouths. They imitate the sayings of the disbelievers before. May Allah fight them. How deluded they are.” It is Allah who said that they are infidels.

That’s Qur’an 9:30.

Your belief regarding the Jews should be, first, that they are infidels, and second, that they are enemies. They are enemies not because they occupied Palestine. They would have been enemies even if they did not occupy a thing. Allah said: “You shall find the strongest men in enmity to the disbelievers [sic] to be the Jews and the polytheists.”

Qur’an 5:82.

Third, you must believe that the Jews will never stop fighting and killing us. They [fight] not for the sake of land and security, as they claim, but for the sake of their religion: “And they will not cease fighting you until they turn you back you’re your religion, if they can.”

Qur’an 2:217.

This is it. We must believe that our fighting with the Jews is eternal, and it will not end until the final battle and this is the fourth point. You must believe that we will fight, defeat, and annihilate them, until not a single Jew remains on the face of the Earth.

It is not me who says so. The Prophet said: “Judgment Day will not come until you fight the Jews and kill them. The Jews will hide behind stones and trees, and the stones and tree will call: Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him except for the Gharqad tree, which is the tree of the Jews.” I have heard that they are planting many of these trees now. […]

That Hadith can be found at Sahih Muslim 6985.

As for you Jews the curse of Allah upon you. The curse of Allah upon you, whose ancestors were apes and pigs.

That’s Qur’an 2:62-65; 5:59-60; and 7:166.

You Jews have sown hatred in our hearts, and we have bequeathed it to our children and grandchildren. You will not survive as long as a single one of us remains.

[…]

Oh Jews, may the curse of Allah be upon you. Oh Jews… Oh Allah, bring Your wrath, punishment, and torment down upon them. Allah, we pray that you transform them again, and make the Muslims rejoice again in seeing them as apes and pigs. You pigs of the earth! You pigs of the earth! You kill the Muslims with that cold pig [blood] of yours.

And now the learned analysts will turn to one another and repeat once again that the Israeli/Palestinian conflict has nothing to do with theology, nothing to do with Islam.

Racism and Middle East Politics
… As the Imam said, ‘Israel must be wiped off the map.’ Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as quoted by Aljazeera
Anger towards Israel by its Arab neighbors is out of proportion to Israel’s sins.
What we are witnessing in the Middle East is anti-Semitism, not politics. It is Jew-hatred, not a dispute over borders or rights or Palestinian statehood. This present conflict is the direct result of Arab racism and Arab intolerance.
As long as middle-eastern Arabs teach their children to hate Jews, there will be no lasting peace.

We who once held a similar disdain for black people should understand better than most what sort of challenges the Middle East faces. Generations have been taught hatred. Generations have been taught that Jews are not human beings. Generations have been taught that every piece of bad fortune has Jewish conspirators at its heart.
That sort of irrational racism can’t be eliminated by UN resolutions. It can only be reversed by sane and tolerant Arabs who are willing to speak out against their brothers.
And they better speak out soon…
I doubt that peace in the Middle East is possible. I doubt that an entire generation of Arabs will come to repent of their anti-Semitic hatred. Jews make useful whipping boys for the powerful but incompetent Arab leaders who can’t make the trains run on time, or provide decent lives for their citizens.
Until Hezbollah and Iran and Syria agree that Israel has a right to exist, and that Jews have a right to live in peace, Israel needs the protection of the West against the Hitlerian plans of the powers that surround it. The West, which has learned a few hard lessons about the evils of racism, needs to come to Israel’s defense.
http://www.anotherthink.com/contents/beyond_the_shire/20060726_racism_and_middle_east_politics.html

Israelism defines its borders, respectful of alternative cultures. Arabism is rogue and misinformed, it believes that all cultures must adopt its ideologies.
http://opinion.latimes.com/opinionla/2008/06/obama-the- self.html

Iraqi Author ‘Aref ‘Alwan: The Jews Have an Historic Right to Palestine…
‘Alwan writes that the Arab League is to blame for the refusal to recognize the 1947 U.N. partition plan, for starting a war to prevent its implementation, and for the results of that war, which the Arabs call the Nakba (disaster).
He points an accusing finger at the Arab regimes, the Arab League, and the educated circles in the Arab world, saying that they had all used the term “nakba” to direct popular consciousness toward a cultural tradition that neither accepts the other side nor recognizes its rights – thereby promoting bigotry, violence and extremism. He also claims that there have been attempts to rewrite Palestinian history, in order to deny any connection between it and the Jewish people…
http://memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=archives&Area=sd&ID=SP189708

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict The Middle East conflict is clearly not about the occupation of the West Bank … The root cause of the conflict is, and always has been, Muslim bigotry.

NYTimes: From anti-Israel bias to an anti-Israel basher

July 6, 2010

NYTimes: From anti-Israel bias to an anti-Israel basher

A. writes…

To the NewYorkTimes [letters@nytimes.com, editorial@nytimes.com]

It has been a long time since I took a peek in that paper, I apologize for being forced into it when meeting 2 relatives in a starbucks cafe, their flight was delayed, so the nytimes gained my attention, regrettably.

July 4 – 2010

Here are glimpses of the “quality” newspaper:

1) Frontpage of the (“Jewish?”) New York Times talks about strained relations between US-Israel, note, A) Mark Landler does not talk about frictions between Obama’s administration and the Netanyahu’s (A.K.A. naming the problem), but ‘between US & Israel.’

B) It titles the flotilla ship (you know, that radical-Islamists IHH led boat that attacked violently the Israeli security and called: “Kill the Jews for Allah!” and “Go back to Auschwitz! prior to that), no more and no less but: “humanitarian aid.”

2) Then, in the section: “Inside the Times” (p. 3, a summary of what awaits the reader…)

I notice briefly that Nicholas D. Kristof writes something… oh, wait where do I remember

that name from? Of course, that’s the guy that wrote about the Arab slavery & genocide

on Africans in Darfur but never had the courage to name it what it is: Arab racism, writing and writing so much material about that calamity, yet always beating around the bushes (Mr. Honigman has criticized him, a lot, google it up). So, Am I interested in anything Mr. Kristof has to say? not really. [if he can’t “see” the Arabs committing crimes against humanity in Africa, why would he see it in Arab-Palestine?] I didn’t even bother to look “inside” his article that “criticizes” Israel’s blockade over (Hamas’ controlled) Gaza.

3) Obituaries… (p. 19) Do you ever think, the bias-virus can spread there as well, sure enough in the never impartial Nytimes, anything is possible. Do you have any idea who the “chosen one” was this week? believe it or not, [Mohammed Oudeh] the planner of the infamous anti-Israel massacre by Arab-Muslim “Palestinians” in 1972, the Munich murderous cold blooded attack on Israel’s sport team [Why? “freedom fighters” of course].

So, Do you also know who provided the material for the “quality paper,” it was an Arab in Ramallah, W.B [Khaled Abu Aker – whatever] “reporting…” about how “great of a father he was,” [these loveable neutral guys always “report,” never posting opinions of course, not surprisingly the ‘Pallywood’ term pops up suddenly) aren’t

you intrigued as me to know how “wonderful” this low life murderer was?

In any case, all in all, a typical “dry” Sunday (wait until it gets interesting in Israel “Palestine”), and anti-Israel rant is all over it, and I barely had a chance to really ‘read’ the times. My family members appeared, thank you very much. I think I’ll pass, (Ma’am) Can I have 2 cappuccinos, to go, please?

I still notice how racist Arabists and Nazi KKK/supremacists call that paper “jewish,” not sure why, for all it is, it’s one staunch Arabist paper, certainly no better than the BBC,

who openly admitted a few years back of being biased against Christianity & against Israel.

I take it back, What a stupid question to wonder about haters’ “facts?”

PS
The date above says, July – 2010, but the date is irrelevant, the sample is certainly a pathetic routine.

1) Sad note: Whatever happened to the prestigious newspaper, the last 10-15 Years or so…?
2) Reality note: I guess there’s a real logic behind the huge loss of subscription, on top of deep disapppointing “opinions,” its bias has already reached a dreadful boring (not boiling) point – yawn!
3) Happy note: I am so glad that I do not have a habit to read that quality-less paper.

Mark Twain, in “The Innocents Abroad,” 1867, wrote: “Palestine sits in sackcloth and ashes …desolate and unlovely…” (though Jews always had some continuous present for thousands of years.)

1886

First attack of Arabs on a Jewish settlement was in Petach Tikva (which was the first settlement in modern day Israel-Palestine), in March of 1886.

President Roosevelt concluded in 1939 that “Arab immigration into Palestine since 1921 has vastly exceeded the total Jewish immigration during the whole period.”

1929

First Arab on Jews massacre in a clear attempt of annihilation, was the Hebron massacre in 1929, incited by the Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini who called to “Kill the Jews everywhere.

[From a PEW poll as recent as 2009: 90% of Middle East views Jews unfavorably.]

1930

* First attempt by the Arabs to ‘eradicate’ Israel, was right after its re-establishment (through the U.N.), the Mufti in 1947, when Israel was declared a state: “I declare a holy war, my Moslem brothers!

On Feb. 4, 1969: Arafat is appointed Chairman of the Executive Committee of the PLO.

On Oct. 21, 1996, Arafat said “We know only one word – jihad. jihad, jihad, jihad…”

In July 2000, Arafat rejected a peace settlement [leading to a “Palestinian” state] offered by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

1964

The beginning of the era of the Arab immigrants (or their children) adopting the title “Palestinians” as an exclusive name (instead of plain Arabs or S. Syrians) as a political “defintion,” with the creation of the PLO.

For example, Ahmad Shukari (the first PLO chairman) in 1956 clarified to the U.N. that they are Arabs, not Palestinians, but by 1964 he & other leaders have changed and began claiming they are the real “Palestinians”…

Kill them with your arms, with your hands, with your nails and teeth.” Throughout the streets of Damascus, Cairo and Amman the frenzied mob marched chanting: “idhbah, idhbah, idhbah, idhbah al-yahud” – (slaughter, slaughter, slaughter the Jews!) The world is stunned at the miracle of tiny Israel pushing off Goliath Arab attack.

To avenge the expulsion from Jordan, the PLO founded a secretive front group, Black September.

Ever since, the dreadful idea of shouting “racism” grew as a pattern at any defensive action Israel ever takes against Arab racist attacks.

1976

Palestinian Muslims (Arafat’s PLO, Syrians and other Muslims), massacre 582 Christians in Damour Lebanon, in a very Islamic spirit of “Allah u Akbar!” and offering a “Holocaust to Muhammad.” It draws a payback by the Christian Phalanges in 1982 in Sabra Shatila (headed by Elie Hobeika, whose fiancee got murdered in Damour), that latter incident has been used in Arab anti-Israel propaganda to blame the Jews for Arab on Arab killings.

1982

After a long history of bloody attacks by Arab Palestinians based in Lebanon, Israel is forced to enter Lebanon [‘Peace for the Galilee‘] with an aim to destroy PLO‘s military capability.

Hezbollah will use terrorism against Israel, and adopt a tactic of using human shields in order to cause civilian casualties, 18 Years later, a group of ‘4 Mothers’ peace activists in Israel will force its government to withdraw from Lebanon.

1987

First Arab-Palestinian “intifada,” attacking Israeli civilians in all methods possible, sending its youth throwing rocks [that kill], the Arab-Muslim Palestinian children are being indoctrinated into a death cult of Jihadism and Shahidism.

[Examples of incitement: July 2000: “The Hour [of Resurrection] will not take place until you will fight the Jews and kill them”
(Dr.

This will be followed by a greater blessing, Allah be praised, with the establishment of a Caliphate.” Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayris: “Kill A Jew –Go To Heaven” The Muslims will kill the Jews, rejoice!” From a Fatah/PA TV Nazi-Like Sermon in 2010: “Fight The Jews & Kill Them — They Are Enemies Of Humanity & Allah”].

Note:

Palestinians (like Hezbollah) “document” every defensive action by Israel, where the Arabs manage to cause civilian deaths, as “Israeli massacres.”

Some excerpts from the Arab racism & Islamic bigotry teaching: “The return of the Jews to Palestine and permitting them to establish a Jewish State contradicts history.”
(Our Country Palestine from the introduction, pg. ix) – The book is dedicated to: “those who are battling for the expulsion of the enemy from our land!”
(Our Country Palestine) – “There will be a Jihad and our country shall be freed. This is our story with the thieving conquerors. You must know, my boy, that Palestine is your grave responsibility.”
(Our Arabic Language) – “Remember: The final and inevitable result will be the victory of the Muslims over the Jews.”
(Our Arabic Language) – “The honorable soul has two objectives: Achieving death and honor.”
(Abd al-Rahim Mahmud’s Song of the Martyr, Sixth Grade) – “The Martyr rejoices in the paradise that Allah has prepared for him.”
(Islamic Education for Seventh Grade) – “The Jews claim that this is one of the places belonging to them and call it “The Western Wall”, but this is not so.”
(Reader and Literary Texts for Eighth Grade) – “Racism: Mankind has suffered from this evil both in ancient as well as in modern times, for, indeed, Satan has, in the eyes of many people, made their evil actions appear beautiful.Such a people are the J–s.”
(Islamic Education for Eighth Grade) – “Lessons to be learned. One must beware of the J–s, for they are treacherous and disloyal.”
(Islamic Education for Ninth Grade) – “Subject for Composition: How are we going to liberate our stolen land? Make use of the following ideas: Arab unity, genuine faith in Allah, most modern weapons and ammunition, using oil and other precious natural resources as weapons in the battle for liberation.”
(Our Arabic Language for Seventh Grade) – “Martyred Jihad fighters are the most honored people, after the Prophets.”
(Reading And Literary Texts for Tenth Grade) – “The clearest examples of racist belief and racial discrimination in the world are Nazism and Zionism.”
(The Contemporary History of the Arabs and the World).]

1994

* July, 1994, The Iranian arm ‘Hezbollah‘ bombs the civilian Jewish center in Argentina [AMIA, the terror group also attacked the embassy in that country 2 years prior], massacring 85 and wounding 300.

[As with the “peace-treaty” with Egypt, anti-Jewish campaign, is relentless (more).]

2000

Second Intifada.

A planned renewal of another wave of bloody violent Intifada was in place, an opportunity to “let it out” came about when Sharon visited the Jewish temple mount, Muslims seized the opportunity to “protest” Sharon’s visit in “their holy place.”

The Italian crew who filmed the crime was threatened by Arafat‘s people.

(Suicide) Genocide bombings rise, targeting ‘where civilians gather the most,’ to kill as many unarmed Jews as possible.

Among the perpetrators of terror attacks: Hamas, (Iran’s) Islamic Jihad, Tanzim, Fatah’s Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade [still (2010) exist under Abu Mazen].

* Pallywood –the term coined due to Palestinian-Arabs’ fake images, fake “reports” industry– steps up with “advanced” lies.

After the facts [real casualties numbering 50 plus, mostly terrorists, not “civilians“] were finally revealed, no Arab-Palestinian representative bothered to apologize, PA’s Saeb Erekat simply avoided the question by a [TV, ABC] reporter as to their claims of “500” dead…

* The patron of Hamas, Islamic Jihad & Hezbollah, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s president M.

2006

Hezbollah
attacks Israel [its missiles reach deep inside Israel], it “improves” Palestinian tactics of using civilians, by firing rockets upon Israeli civilians (in major Israeli cities/towns) from among populated density locations, then, cowardly escaping the area, causing Israelis to fire back.

]

The Jihadi party, has been involved in major anti Israel attacks, its charter calls for the destruction of Israel, its leaders often declare (including on “moderate” Fatah TV) their desire to annihilate Jews, a sample video showed a Hamas-nick vowing to “drink the blood of the Jews.” In 2007 Hamas’ Mickey Mouse’ (“martyr”) character is teaching Kids to hate and kill, in 2008 On Hamas TV, a toy rabbit who vows to ‘eat Jews’ has being used by Hamas to encourage Palestinian children for violence.

2010

Arab Muslim anti-Israel propaganda picks up steam, as the current motto is to “make Jews look bad” so they can justify their hatred and create the foundation for their intended ultimate goal of genocide.

A supposed “peace activism” designed to help the Hamas in Gaza who have been blockaded (after their continuous attacks on Israel’s civilians, in order to stop their weapon smuggling), has been organizing “aid ships” heading to Gaza and confront Israeli security, [incidentally, there are no “aid ships” heading towards the Egyptian border, though that country has the same blockade on the violent Gaza regime, for no one in the Arab-Islamic world cares about Arab-Palestinians, unless it can hurt Israel, a “sacred” goal by leaders, religious clerics, etc.], one such ship, the Flotilla had a major success in damning Israel’s image, after violently attacking the Israelis (who came aboard to check for weapons), 9 Muslims died, an uproar against Israel came about.

Erdogan who’s representing the Islamic party (linked to the Flotilla), was looking for some time to break his country’s alliance with Israel, he also objected to UN’s sanctions against Iran for not complying with regards to its nuclear program.

Radicalization of Turkey, in an already volatile region.

I short, in 100 Words…
